New Pentagon UFO file reveals glowing orbs in US Northeast

WASHINGTON, June 12 (Reuters) – The Pentagon released a third tranche of previously classified files on alleged UFO sightings on Friday, which include reports of glowing, sometimes red, orbs seen by ​people in the northeastern United States.

The first two batches were made public on ‌May 8 and May 22. President Donald Trump is the latest president to release U.S. government reports on unidentified flying objects, a disclosure process that began in the late 1970s.

Friday’s release of what ​the Pentagon calls “unidentified anomalous phenomena” (UAP) involved 72 files from the FBI, CIA ​and Pentagon and includes testimony, videos and artistic depictions. Reports from several ⁠entries refer to sphere or orb sightings in the same general U.S. Northeast location.

One ​file from February cites FBI interviews with two people who reported seeing an intense ​bright light in the middle of their backyard one evening. The identities of those interviewed and their precise location were blacked out.

One person “described the red color as being brilliant and beautiful, and that (redacted) ​had never seen anything that color of red before,” according to the FBI report.

The ​red sphere, about three feet (one meter) wide, contained a “white plasma sun” the size of a basketball ‌in ⁠its center, it said.

The people noticed a second orb and the two appeared tethered together as they moved away. They reported seeing several white orbs a few weeks later flying over the house at a much higher altitude, the FBI report said.

A similar ​interview in July 2025 ​referred to previous ⁠reports of orbs.

“This observation occurred within 25 miles of the ‘Triangle Orbs,’ ‘Red Orb Rotation,’ and ‘Orbs Over the Pond,’ sightings at a location well ​known to them, which is sparsely populated,” the FBI report ​said.

An October ⁠2024 incident describes a light source below the horizon, hovering above a pond.

“The luminous object resembled a ‘plasma-like sphere’ intermittently changing shape and luminosity. At times, the primary light source appeared ⁠to separate ​into smaller luminous points,” according to the report.

“These ​files, hidden behind classifications, have long fueled speculation – and it’s time the American people see it for themselves,” ​Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth said in a statement.

SpaceX set to begin trading after raising $75 billion in record IPO

SpaceX is set to begin trading Friday after completing the largest initial public offering in history, marking the long-awaited Wall Street debut of Elon Musk’s rocket and satellite company.

SpaceX on Thursday priced its shares at $135 each, raising $75 billion to finance its ambitious plans, including establishing a human colony on Mars and deploying solar-powered data centers in space.

The shares will start trading after the Nasdaq Stock Exchange opens at 9:30 a.m. ET under the ticker symbol “SPCX.”

The offering leapfrogs SpaceX to become the largest global IPO, surpassing the current record holder, Saudi Aramco. When the state-owned Saudi Arabian oil company went public in 2019, it raised nearly $26 billion, according to Renaissance Capital.

Rockets, satellites and AI

SpaceX, which Elon Musk founded in 2002, develops and launches spacecraft for satellite operators, NASA, the Department of Defense and other customers. The business includes Starlink, a satellite division that provides broadband connectivity, and an artificial intelligence division focused on building data centers.

SpaceX in February also acquired Musk’s company xAI, which runs the social networking platform X and chatbot Grok.

SpaceX’s public stock offering has generated strong investor interest, with Bloomberg reporting on Thursday that the IPO received more than $100 billion in retail orders.

The IPO gives SpaceX a market valuation of $1.77 trillion, making the Texas-based manufacturer one of Wall Street’s most valuable companies. SpaceX trails Nvidia, the world’s most valuable company, which has a market cap of roughly $5 trillion, according to FactSet, as well as a handful of other tech companies.

Although SpaceX has a high valuation, it lags other tech giants in terms of revenue and profitability, said Jay Ritter, an IPO expert and professor at the University of Florida’s Warrington College of Business. SpaceX, which is unprofitable, booked $18.7 billion in revenue last year, far less than Alphabet’s $400 billion in 2025 sales.

“Alphabet, Apple and Nvidia are producing annual after-tax profits of more than $100 billion a year,” he said prior to the IPO. “There’s a long way to go to catch up with the profitability of those mega caps.”

Indeed, SpaceX will face significant challenges in delivering on its bold plan to develop space for commercial ventures, including ringing the earth with AI-powered satellites, and to justify its massive valuation.

“I can see the argument for why this company should deserve a lower valuation,” said Matthew Kennedy, a senior market strategist at Renaissance Capital, which tracks IPOs. “At the same time, it is true that some stocks are expensive and stay expensive.”

Many experts expect SpaceX stock to be volatile in its early days of trading, as is common with other large IPOs. A Truist analysis of 30 sizable technology IPOs found that more than half the offerings posted negative returns a year after their shares started trading.

The trillion dollar man

The IPO has made SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, already the world’s richest person, a trillionaire— at least on paper. Musk owns 4.8 billion shares of SpaceX, or about 42% of the company, as well as 350 million stock options, according to the IPO filing. With 82.4% of the company’s voting power, he will continue to wield significant control over SpaceX’s future.

SpaceX shares are expected to launch on several indexes, including the Nasdaq 100 and Russell indices, in the coming days. That could pave the way for more investors, including Americans with 401(k) plans, to become potential shareholders.

SpaceX, which had filed for a confidential initial public offering in April, said that it sees a market opportunity of more than $28 trillion across the industries it operates in.

Of that, 90% is attributed to xAi alone, according to an analysis by Van Ha Trinh, financial markets analyst at the online broker Exness. That points to SpaceX’s belief that its AI capabilities will fuel its growth.

As Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico works to brand himself as a “law and order Democrat,” Texas Gov. Greg Abbott is rolling out a sweeping public safety agenda that could force the left’s rising star to defend parts of his legislative record on crime, bail reform and policing.

Abbott, who is pushing to remove so-called “rogue” prosecutors, create a statewide prosecutor and deny bail to illegal immigrants accused of violent crimes, told Fox News Digital the proposals are necessary.

“Texas Democrats have consistently sided with criminals over the citizens they were elected to protect,” Abbott told Fox News Digital, adding, “Keeping dangerous offenders behind bars is one of the most important responsibilities of government.”

While Abbott’s proposals still need approval from lawmakers, they are already shaping a broader debate over crime and public safety in Texas ahead of the midterm elections.

Talarico has highlighted endorsements from law enforcement figures, including former Dallas FBI Special Agent in Charge Matthew DeSarno, to bolster his public safety record, but Abbott’s allies argue his voting record and absences from key public safety votes tell a different story.

Talarico was absent for a vote on a bill named after slain Houston preteen Jocelyn Nungaray that would have automatically denied bail to illegal immigrants charged with violent crimes. Talarico’s campaign defended the missed vote, telling Fox News Digital Talarico had an excused absence. The bill ultimately failed to pass, but Abbott is seeking to revive the measure.

Among the public safety measures Talarico voted against were House Bill 1900, which prevented Texas cities from defunding their police departments; House Bill 20, which tightened bail restrictions for violent offenders; and Senate Bill 4, which established mandatory prison sentences for human smuggling and stash house operations. Abbott later signed all three measures into law.

“James Talarico’s disastrous record on public safety is indistinguishable from the Texas Democrats who have repeatedly opposed common-sense measures to support law enforcement and keep violent criminals off the streets,” Eduardo Leal, press secretary for Abbott’s campaign, told Fox News Digital. “He’s led his Democrat colleagues to vote against legislation that prevented cities from defunding the police and twice failed to show up for votes to deny bail to illegal immigrants charged with violent crimes.”

Talarico’s campaign has pushed back on Abbott’s characterization, pointing to Talarico previously voting in favor of Abbott’s sweeping bail reform measure passed last year and voting for billions of dollars in funding for Texas law enforcement.

“ This baseless attack is a flat-out lie. James opposes defunding the police, has voted to deny bail for violent criminals, supports prosecuting violent felons, and has a proven track record of sending billions of dollars to support law enforcement,” Talarico’s campaign spokesperson JT Ellis said in a statement.

But as crime continues to dominate headlines nationwide, Texas has not been immune, with Abbott blaming what he describes as soft-on-crime district attorneys for failing to hold offenders accountable. Abbott’s campaign team pointed to the release of two murder suspects in Austin on reduced bonds after Travis County District Attorney Jose Garza’s office missed the 90-day deadline for securing indictments last year. Meanwhile, Garza’s office has secured the indictments of 21 police officers over allegations of misconduct in the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests.

And in court Monday, a judge dismissed two motions targeting the Travis County District Attorney, first assistant and several prosecutors, meaning they are no longer facing allegations of criminal wrongdoing.

Abbott’s office says concerns about district attorneys such as Garza are driving its push to create a Texas statewide prosecutor, a new office that would operate separately from the attorney general’s office and focus on prosecuting the state’s most serious crimes.

The proposal to create a Texas statewide prosecutor would require approval from the Texas Legislature, which would need to establish and fund the new office through statute. Unlike some of Abbott’s other public safety initiatives, the measure would not require a constitutional amendment.

An official from Abbott’s campaign team told Fox News Digital that creating this new office is necessary because current state statutes provide that the attorney general’s office has no general prosecutorial authority.

Criminal prosecutions are generally handled by locally elected district and county attorneys, and the Attorney General may intervene only when authorized by statute, requested by local prosecutors, or otherwise permitted by law.

Under the proposal, if a district attorney does not pursue an indictment within 90 days, the statewide prosecutor would be authorized to intervene and take over the prosecution.

Police departments would be required to send reports involving certain serious crimes to both local district attorneys and the statewide prosecutor, enabling the office to track cases from the beginning.

Garza dubbed Abbott’s sweeping criminal justice reform proposal to be a “distraction from the governor’s litany of failures.”

“Under his leadership, Texans are paying more for groceries, public schools are losing funding, and too many Texans lack access to healthcare and mental healthcare,” Garza said.

Abbott’s other two legislative requests — ending bail for illegal immigrants and making it possible to impeach district attorneys — would require a statewide vote by Texans.

Last month, Abbott ordered the Texas Department of Public Safety to expand the Texas Repeat Offender Task Force from the Houston area into the Dallas-Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin regions, saying the effort will help target violent repeat offenders and improve public safety. Since launching in October, the task force has arrested 728 repeat offenders, including 455 high-threat suspects; seized large quantities of drugs and weapons; encountered 155 known gang members; and recovered 25 stolen vehicles.

“The choice in this election is clear,” Abbott said. “Republicans will protect communities and prosecute criminals, while Democrats stand with the very people who threaten public safety.”

A Toronto police officer was fatally shot Thursday during an operation linked to a shooting at the U.S. Consulate in Toronto in March, police said. One suspect was shot and hospitalized in custody, while another was “armed and dangerous” and the subject of a manhunt.

The incident occurred Thursday morning at a high-rise building in North York, Toronto, police said. Officers from the Emergency Task Force were executing multiple search warrants in relation to a series of shootings, including the shooting at the U.S. consulate, the Toronto Police Service said in a statement.

No one was injured and no serious damage caused when shots were fired at the U.S. consulate on March 10.

Police said gunfire was exchanged on the building’s fourth floor early Thursday, where both the suspect and an officer were struck. The officer, identified as Constable Marc Pinizzotto, 43, was pronounced dead at a Toronto hospital. He had served with the Toronto police for 18 years and was a member of a special Task Force Unit.

“This loss will have a profound impact on the Toronto Police Family. Our Service, our members, and all members of the larger policing family are deeply saddened,” said Toronto Police Chief Myron Demik.

Nicholas Bennett, 19, who was arrested with gunshot wounds, will be charged with first-degree murder in connection with the officer’s death.

The other suspect, Zara Jabbi, also 19, was considered armed and dangerous and was the subject of a manhunt, Demik told reporters Thursday.

“If you see him, do not approach,” said the police, who shared a photo of the suspect in their statement. “Call 911 immediately.”

In March, police said two individuals got out of a vehicle early one morning and fired multiple shots at the U.S. consulate building with a handgun before returning to their vehicle and driving away. Canadian authorities said at the time that they would investigate the matter as a national security incident.

U.S. prosecutors, in a May court filing, linked the consulate shooting to Mohammad Baqer Saad Al-Saadi, an Iraqi national accused of running a terrorist network behind multiple plots in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Al-Saadi is accused by U.S. authorities of being a member of Kataib Hezballah, a U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organization based in Iraq that’s among the regional groups long considered proxy forces of Iran. According to the court document, Al-Saadi discussed the consulate shooting in a recorded phone call.

The Toronto police did not elaborate on what other shootings were being investigated in connection with the Thursday incident. Multiple synagogues were targeted by overnight gunfire in the greater Toronto area in March, prompting an increased police presence.

U.S. Ambassador to Canada Pete Hoekstra offered his condolences to the slain officer’s family in a social media post.

“On behalf of our Mission in Canada, I extend our deepest condolences on the loss of @TorontoPolice Constable Marc Pinizzotto. His courage and sacrifice reflect the very best of those who serve,” Hoekstra said.
