    The Supreme Court on Thursday extended its administrative stay blocking enforcement of a lower court ruling that would have restricted access to the abortion pill mifepristone, allowing telehealth prescribing and mail distribution of the drug to continue while the legal battle wages on.

    The decision keeps in place current FDA rules allowing patients to obtain mifepristone without an in-person doctor visit.

    Justice Clarence Thomas dissented from the court’s order. Justice Samuel Alito also filed a separate dissent.

    The case stems from challenges to FDA changes that expanded access to mifepristone in 2023, allowing telehealth prescribing and distribution by mail.

    Washington — The Supreme Court on Thursday maintained mail access to the abortion pill mifepristone, setting aside for now a lower court order that blocked abortion providers from prescribing the widely used drug through telehealth and shipping it to patients.

    The high court’s unsigned decision ensures that patients nationwide will continue to have broad access to mifepristone while litigation in a challenge to the Food and Drug Administration’s relaxed policy for obtaining the drug brought by the state of Louisiana moves forward.

    Conservative Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas dissented.

    The order came after a federal appellate court earlier this month reinstated a FDA rule requiring mifepristone be dispensed in-person. Two pharmaceutical companies that manufacture the drug, Danco Laboratories and GenBioPro, had warned that the ruling caused confusion and chaos for patients, abortion providers and pharmacies, and they asked the Supreme Court to block the lower court’s decision and continue allowing patients to obtain the pills through the mail.

    But Louisiana officials urged the high court to maintain the more stringent rule for obtaining mifepristone, which the FDA lifted in 2021. They warned that the end of the in-person dispensing requirement allowed out-of-state providers to evade its abortion ban, leading to more than 1,000 medication abortions in the state. The FDA did not take a position before the Supreme Court as to whether it should preserve mail access to mifepristone.

    Alito had issued a temporary order last week that halted the appellate court’s decision while the court considered the matter, though his pause was set to expire Thursday. The full Supreme Court has now agreed to maintain broad access to the abortion drug through the mail.

    The justices’ intervention arose out of a lawsuit Louisiana filed against the FDA last year that threatened to cut off mail access to mifepristone for women nationwide, including in states where abortion is legal. Mifepristone is taken with a second drug, misoprostol, to terminate an early pregnancy.

    Medication was used in 65% of all clinician-provided abortions in 2023, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a research organization that supports abortion rights. More than 1.1 million abortions were provided by health care workers last year, a figure that includes medication abortions provided by telehealth to patients in states where abortion is restricted, Guttmacher found.

    Preserving access to the abortion pill garnered newfound urgency after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, after which more than half of the states imposed limits on the procedure. In Louisiana, abortion is banned, with narrow exceptions. The state also enacted a law in 2024 that designates mifepristone and misoprostol as controlled substances and criminalizes possession without a prescription.

    But the Biden administration made mifepristone easier to obtain when it suspended enforcement of the in-person dispensing rule during the COVID-19 pandemic, finding that the drug “may be safely used without in-person dispensing.” The FDA formally allowed mifepristone to be prescribed through telehealth and dispensed through the mail in 2023.

    In its lawsuit, Louisiana officials said because of those actions, mifepristone is flooding into the state, causing “thousands” of unlawful abortions each year and costing the state tens of thousands of dollars through its Medicaid program.

    A federal district court had paused Louisiana’s case against the FDA in April while the agency reviews mifepristone’s safety. The Trump administration has said that while studies typically take at least a year to conduct, the FDA’s plan is to complete the review “sooner than that timeframe.”

    But Louisiana officials appealed that decision, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit agreed to temporarily block the 2023 policy allowing mifepristone to be prescribed remotely and sent through the mail.

    In emergency appeals to the Supreme Court, Danco and GenBioPro, warned that the appellate court’s decision caused chaos and threatened to abruptly eliminate nationwide access to mifepristone by mail.

    “Patients and clinicians have, for years, relied on dispensing mifepristone without an in-clinic visit, particularly for women from rural areas and those for whom transportation, childcare, or occupational constraints make it difficult to see providers in person,” GenBioPro said. “As a direct result of the Fifth Circuit’s order, patients nationwide may face delay or denial of access to time-sensitive medical care, supply-chain disruptions, and attendant health risks.”

    Louisiana officials, meanwhile, said that while in-person abortions have “virtually vanished” in the state following the end of Roe, medication abortions have “skyrocketed.” Beyond the Medicaid costs, the state said it has also spent more than $17,000 investigating out-of-state providers who shipped mifepristone into Louisiana.

    In a pair of dissents to Thursday’s Supreme Court decision, Thomas and Alito argued the makers of mifepristone did not show that they will suffer irreparable injury if the appellate court ruling is left in place.

    Thomas pointed to the Comstock Act, an 1873 law that banned the mailing of abortion-related drugs and contraceptives, writing that the drugmakers “are not entitled to a stay of an adverse court order based on lost profits from their criminal enterprise.”

    Alito argued there is no indication the FDA is planning to enforce the in-person dispensing rule. He also wrote that the continued availability of mifepristone in states like Louisiana had “thwarted” state officials’ efforts to largely ban abortion.

    “What is at stake is the perpetration of a scheme to undermine our decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, … which restored the right of each State to decide how to regulate abortions within its borders,” Alito wrote, referring to the ruling that overturned Roe v. Wade.

    The emergency appeals landed the issue of mifepristone’s availability before the Supreme Court for a second time. Months after the high court rolled back the constitutional right to abortion, anti-abortion rights groups filed a lawsuit challenging the FDA’s 2000 approval of mifepristone and several steps the agency took that eased the conditions for its use.

    The groups argued that the FDA has failed to adequately consider the drug’s safety and effectiveness. Major medical associations, including the American Medical Association and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, have said that major adverse events occur in less than 0.32% of patients when mifepristone is used in medication abortions.

    The Supreme Court in 2024 unanimously rejected the challenge from the anti-abortion rights doctors and medical groups, ruling that the plaintiffs did not have the legal right to sue the FDA.

    May 14 (Reuters) – The six people found dead inside a sweltering railroad boxcar in Laredo, Texas, over the weekend were stowaway migrants from Mexico and Honduras who fell victim to the ​perils of human smuggling, officials said on Thursday.

    Preliminary medical reports determined that all ‌six died from severe heat stroke hours before the freight train they were riding on arrived on Sunday in Laredo, the largest inland port on the U.S.-Mexico border, according to Mayor Victor Trevino.

    “They did not pass away ​in our city but were discovered here after hours of suffering and eventually dying ​several hours before arriving,” Trevino told reporters at a news conference.

    A Union Pacific ⁠railroad worker found the bodies on Sunday afternoon and alerted law enforcement, touching off an ​investigation that federal authorities leading the probe are treating as a human smuggling case, officials said.

    Temperatures ​in Laredo reached a high of 97 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday, according to Texas Public Radio.

    Police Chief Miguel Rodriguez Jr said the southbound train originated in Long Beach, California. Investigators believe the six migrants were loaded into ​the boxcar on Saturday in Del Rio, Texas, north of Laredo along the Rio Grande border.

    The ​chief said three of the victims were from Mexico and three from Honduras. The youngest of the group ‌was ⁠a 14-year-old boy. One of the six was a Mexican woman. The rest were adult males. No survivors were found with them.

    “We are demanding justice for these lives lost,” the mayor said. “It doesn’t matter where they came from. Those responsible for trafficking and placing human beings in such dangerous ​and inhumane conditions must ​be held accountable.”

    Trevino warned ⁠that migrants put themselves at grave risk by placing their lives in the hands of unscrupulous human traffickers.

    “To those who may be considering this ​dangerous journey, I speak to you with both compassion and urgency. ​We understand the ⁠desire for a better life. But do not come here illegally. The journey is clearly dangerous, and too often it ends in tragedy,” the mayor said.

    The Laredo deaths marked the latest occasion of ⁠attempted border ​crossings by stowaways in trains and tractor-trailers ending in ​multiple fatalities, including a 2022 incident in which 53 migrants were found dead in an abandoned truck with malfunctioning air-conditioning on ​the outskirts of San Antonio, Texas.

    New York City — President Trump’s state visit to China this week for his summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping has garnered palpable excitement amongst the Chinese community in the Queens neighborhood of Flushing, home to one of the largest Asian populations in the U.S.

    Mandarin is the language of choice at the markets and shops lining one of the main thoroughfares in Flushing, and even Vietnamese and Malaysian residents prefer the Chinese dialect to English. CBS News spoke to two dozen people, mostly from China, but some from Taiwan, Hong Kong and Vietnam.

    “A strong U.S. and a strong China benefits everyone,” one man who has resided in Queens for 34 years told CBS News.

    An American citizen in his 70s born in China, the man has memories of a time when China was more open to the West. Speaking in Mandarin, he expressed hopes of closer relations between China and the U.S., and seemed undaunted by the obstacles to such a rapprochement, namely the Iran war, the tension surrounding the Taiwan issue, tariffs and trade.

    Taiwan has emerged as the top priority for Xi, but the Taiwanese people in Flushing who spoke to CBS News expressed strong feelings about Taiwanese independence.

    “China and Taiwan have nothing in common,” said a Taiwanese-born man sitting in the sun eating hot pot.

    Most of the Chinese-born people who spoke to CBS News declined to talk about their perspectives on Xi.

    One man born in Hong Kong said he hopes Xi allows for more freedoms in the future for people in mainland China, where his older sister lives. He said he also worries about decreased freedoms in Hong Kong now that China has taken back control of the island.

    He hopes the summit goes well: “We all [have to] live [together] on earth.”

    Asked about how Trump policies are affecting their community, most of the people interviewed declined to comment. Some recalled feeling anti-Asian sentiment in the immediate wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, when reports of hate crimes targeting Asians spiked, according to FBI data.

    And while the numbers have come down from their peak in 2023, the more than 300 reported attacks on Asians in the U.S. last year, according to FBI data, remains generally higher than pre-pandemic levels.

    One man born in Malaysia said he sometimes feels disrespected as an Asian person living in the U.S.

    But a woman born in China who now sells nuts at a snack stand said the standard of living in the U.S. is high, and the standard of living for people living in China is improving.

    “I think the U.S-China relationship is also getting better,” she said.

    Before the Iran war, President Donald Trump was “poised” to strike a “better deal” with the regime than the President Barack Obama-era Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, former National Counterterrorism Center Director Joe Kent asserted in a Thursday post on X.

    “Prior to letting the Israelis lead us into this war, President Trump was actually poised to cut a better deal than the JCPOA (aka the Obama Iran deal),” Kent wrote.

    “The Iranians feared and respected Trump in a way they never respected Obama—he took out the terror mastermind Qasem Soleimani, yet was prudent enough not to get sucked into the quicksand of another Middle Eastern quagmire that would only favor Iran and strengthen its hardliners,” he continued.

    “That’s why, as soon as he returned to office in January 2025, the Iranians stopped their proxies from attacking us and were immediately open to negotiations,” Kent added.

    Kent, who quit the counterterrorism post in March due to his opposition to the Iran war, asserted in the Thursday post that Trump could “still correct course” on the issue.

    “President Trump can still correct course, but he has to break the current stalemate cycle we are in: Get us out of the military standoff. Restrain the Israelis. Leverage the potential of sanctions relief to open the Strait of Hormuz and secure a new deal on the nuclear issue,” he advised.

    In response to Fox News Digital’s request for a comment from the White House on Thursday, spokesman Davis Ingle provided a statement slamming Kent.

    “Joe Kent’s self-aggrandizing resignation letter and recent comments are riddled with lies. Most egregious are Kent’s false claims that the largest state sponsor of terrorism somehow did not pose a threat to the United States and that Israel forced the President into launching Operation Epic Fury. As Commander-in-Chief, President Trump took decisive action based on strong evidence which showed that the terrorist Iranian regime posed an imminent threat and was preparing to strike Americans first. President Trump’s number one priority has always been ensuring the safety and security of the American people,” Ingle said in the statement.

    While testifying at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing on Thursday, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) Commander Adm. Brad Cooper said that during the 30 months prior to when Operation Epic Fury began, “Iran and its proxies had been attacking U.S. service members and diplomats about 350 times … about every third day.”

    But Kent asserted in a post on X, “Iran’s proxies attacked our troops & diplomats under Biden, NOT under this Trump admin prior to Epic Fury, hence the 30 months time frame. When Trump returned to office in January of 2025 those attacks stopped.”

    “Iran stoped [sic] its proxies from attacking us b/c they knew Trump would hit back & they wanted to reach a deal w/Trump. A deal was in the works, that deal would have thwarted Israel’s goal of getting us committed to a war against Iran, so Israel did everything they could to get us into a war with Iran,” he added.

    “Iran holding back its proxies & the protests against the regime in January show that Trump’s max pressure & strategic targeted strike campaign was working, tragically this success was squandered by letting the Israelis drive our decision making,” Kent claimed.

    NEW YORK, May 14 (Reuters) – Federal Reserve Bank of New York President John Williams said on ​Thursday he does not see a need right now for the ‌central bank to weigh any change in interest rate policy amid the uncertainty created by the Middle East war.

    “I don’t see there’s any reason at all ​to raise rates right now or lower rates right now,” Williams ⁠said.

    The central banker spoke before a gathering held by the Conference of ​Business Economists and largely reiterated comments made in a series of recent remarks.

    ​He said keeping inflation expectations steady is important and while it is not surprising short-term expectations have risen, longer-term projections have been stable, which is a good thing.

    Williams ​said he believed much of the impact on inflation from tariffs had already ​happened, but he was watching to see how price pressures develop.

    With inflation expectations holding ‌in ⁠and the job market not pushing price pressures up, “we’re not seeing…unusual second-round effects or persistent effects. But we just have to keep watching,” the official said.

    Williams also said the strength of the stock market was not ​a surprise given what ​investors think about ⁠the economy’s outlook.

    “There is optimism about higher productivity growth going forward, partly AI and other things,” Williams said. “It’s not ​surprising that the stock market’s high” given how “bullish” people ​are about ⁠the future of the economy.

    Investors currently expect no change in what is now a federal funds target rate range of between 3.5% and 3.75% over coming ⁠months.

    The ​Middle East war has caused price pressures to ​spike, but it is unclear how long those pressures will persist given the unresolved nature of ​the conflict.

    Progressive political commentator Larry McKelvey, better known as Charlamagne Tha God, argued the White House ballroom project is all the proof needed to show President Donald Trump intends to run for a third term.

    But “The Late Show” guest host’s rhetoric is raising concerns among those who believe it could incite violence.

    “Do you seriously think he’s building that for the next guy?” Charlamagne questioned during Wednesday’s episode.

    “You think he likes J.D. Vance that much? You think he’s doing that level of solid for Marco Rubio?” he added, referencing the two most likely successors to the MAGA empire — the vice president and secretary of State.

    Charlamagne’s comments, couched in hyperbolic jokes, raised far-left accusations that Trump has displayed a king-like disregard for limits in his second term — and even mirror the president’s own jokes about violating constitutional limits.

    “I’m not asking Trump not to run for a third term,” Charlamagne conceded. “Trump is going to Trump. What I’m asking is for the Republican Party to be honest for once and tell us whether or not you want this man to be king, okay? I’m tired of edging dictatorship.”

    Hogan Gidley, a former White House deputy press secretary, believes some viewers aren’t going to take the comments as a joke.

    “They have no clue what their comments actually mean to those out there who want to commit acts of violence, which is ignorant and bad enough,” Gidley told Fox News Digital, noting the multiple assassination attempts against Trump and members of his administration.

    “Or —they know exactly what they’re doing, creating a permission structure for violence. Either way, it’s hurtful to our country,” he added.

    Under the 22nd Amendment, presidents of the United States are limited to two terms — a change made in 1951 after Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) served four.

    While firmly noting that comedians have a right under the First Amendment to address issues of their choosing, Gidley says he doubts the White House renovations are proof that Trump wants to overcome that limit.

    “Context matters,” Gidley said.

    “For safety and security, it makes complete sense to have a facility that all presidents can use to entertain foreign heads of state, to entertain different guests on various occasions under the watchful eye of a controlled space.”

    At the White House Correspondent’s Association dinner last month, Trump faced a third assassination attempt when a gunman charged a Secret Service security checkpoint at the event at the Washington Hilton.

    Trump noted that a space like the future ballroom could be used for such events to provide a more secure venue.

    Charlamagne, for his part, comedically painted a vision for how Trump might use the ballroom in a third term.

    “On January 20th, 2029, Trump is going to go into that ballroom, with a stack of hustlers, a crate of Big Macs and lock the door from the inside,” Charlamagne said.

    Construction of the ballroom, which spans 90,000 square feet and is designed to seat 650 attendees, is scheduled to finish before the end of Trump’s second term, according to press releases from the White House.

    The Daily Show did not respond to requests for comment from Fox News Digital. Neither did the White House when asked for reaction to the comedian and political commentator’s comments.

    May 14 (Reuters) – Republicans in Louisiana ​and South Carolina on Thursday took steps toward installing new congressional maps aimed at eliminating one Democratic-held seat in each state, as ‌a national redistricting battle expands further across the South.

    In Louisiana, the Republican-controlled state Senate passed a new congressional map that eliminates one of the state’s two Democratic-held, majority-Black U.S. House districts, paving the way for Republicans to pick up an additional seat in November’s midterm elections.

    And in South Carolina, Republican Governor Henry McMaster on Thursday reversed positions and called for ​a special legislative session starting on Friday to consider redrawing the state’s congressional map, a move that would likely oust longtime Democratic U.S. ​Representative Jim Clyburn from Congress in November’s midterm elections.

    Republican-led Southern states have raced to redraw their congressional maps after the ⁠U.S. Supreme Court’s decision two weeks ago that severely weakened protections for districts with significant minority populations. Tennessee and Alabama have also either split up Democratic districts or ​taken steps to do so.

    The new round of redistricting is part of a broader national fight that is likely to give Republicans a major boost as they seek ​to preserve a narrow majority in this fall’s election, though Democrats are still seen as favored to win the House given President Donald Trump’s sagging approval ratings.

    The Louisiana map, which was approved 27-10 along party lines, will next head to the state House of Representatives, where Republicans hold a more than two-thirds majority.

    Republican Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry previously suspended the congressional ​primary elections a day after the Supreme Court decision and only two days before early in-person voting was set to begin. Thousands of absentee ballots ​had already been returned by mail.

    Democratic lawmakers, civil rights activists and voting rights advocates have criticized the proposed map for diluting the electoral power of Black residents, who make up ‌about one-third ⁠of the state’s population. The new map would likely result in Republicans winning five of the state’s six districts in November.

    “This Senate should seek to support a map that gives everyone a voice,” Democratic state Senator Katrina Jackson-Andrews said from the Senate floor on Thursday.

    Republicans, including the bill’s sponsor, state Senator Jay Morris, said the map was drawn solely for partisan advantage, rather than along racial lines.

    The current map, which includes majority-Black districts centered in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, was ​deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, ​which found lawmakers relied too heavily ⁠on race in crafting the lines.

    The new map includes only a single Democratic district that connects the two cities, which could pit the two Democratic incumbent U.S. representatives, Troy Carter and Cleo Fields, against one another.

    In South Carolina, McMaster’s ​announcement came two days after a vote to extend the legislative session and consider a new map failed in ​the state Senate, when ⁠five Republicans broke with their party to deny the required two-thirds majority.

    McMaster had previously indicated he would defer to the legislature. But Trump has pressured state Republicans to pursue a new map that would eliminate the state’s lone Democratic district, held by Clyburn, a Black Democrat who is a leading figure within his party and ⁠has served ​in Congress since 1993.

    Unlike the resolution that failed this week, any new map would only require ​a simple majority vote in both legislative chambers, which are dominated by Republicans.

    The state House of Representatives has already advanced a proposal that would split up Clyburn’s seat while postponing the June ​9 primary elections until August to accommodate the new district lines. Republicans hold the state’s other six districts.

    House Democrats failed again Thursday to fracture Republicans’ support for President Donald Trump’s Iran strategy as GOP lawmakers overwhelmingly rejected an effort to curb his war powers.

    The House of Representatives deadlocked in a 212–212 vote, blocking a resolution offered by Rep. Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J., that would have forced Trump to end hostilities against Iran absent congressional authorization.

    Every Democratic lawmaker except for Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine, voted for the measure. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., a leading Trump foe, and Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., and Tom Barrett, R-Mich., were the lone Republicans to cross-party lines in support of the resolution.

    Several lawmakers in both parties did not vote.

    The failed vote comes after peace talks between Washington and Tehran stalled in recent weeks, though the ceasefire has largely stayed intact despite sporadic fighting.

    Trump said Monday the ceasefire was “on life support” and reiterated his demand that Iran end its nuclear program.

    Amid the stalemate, congressional Democrats have linked the war to voter concern about affordability in an effort to pressure GOP lawmakers to buck the president.

    “The single fastest way to bring down costs is to end this war,” House Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, D-Mass., said on the House floor Wednesday. “And once again, Republicans are going to have an opportunity to do just that. Once again, they have a chance to bring our service members home and end this chaos.”

    But Republicans have argued that limiting Trump’s war powers could undermine his ability to end the conflict.

    “By putting an arbitrary limitation on America’s ability to deploy both kinetic as well as diplomatic pressure on Iran, I think it ends up harming our ability to negotiate, to get Iran to stand down,” Rep. Zach Nunn, R-Iowa, a colonel in the Air Force Reserve, told Fox News Digital in an interview.

    “What I’ve seen from the president is a clear desire to stop Iran’s ability from having a nuclear weapon and in their ability to be the number one sponsor of state terrorism,” he added.

    The vast majority of Republicans have continued to stand by Trump’s Iran strategy despite the administration cruising past a 60-day deadline to seek congressional approval of the conflict.

    The president has argued the indefinite ceasefire that began April 7 effectively stopped the clock. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has also contended that the 1973 War Powers Resolution giving Congress a say over the use of military force is unconstitutional.

    Across the Capitol, GOP support for the war in Iran appears to be on shakier ground.

    The Senate narrowly defeated a war powers resolution on Wednesday, the seventh attempt from Democrats since Operation Epic Fury began Feb. 28, that would have ended hostilities with Iran.

    Sens. Rand Paul, R-Ky., Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, crossed party lines to support the measure curbing Trump’s war powers while Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., joined Republicans in opposition. Just one more GOP yes vote would have allowed the resolution to clear the chamber.

    Murkowski, who flipped her vote to support the war powers resolution, said Wednesday that the administration’s timeline in Iran “has taken us beyond the 60 days” deadline for Congress to authorize or halt the conflict.

    She had hoped the administration would provide more clarity, but that information hadn’t come, prompting her to join with Democrats in curbing Trump’s war powers.

    “We’re in a different place than we were last time we voted on this,” Murkowski said.

    A Fox News poll published in late April found that 55% of Americans oppose military action against Iran. Nearly six in ten respondents said the war will not improve the safety of Americans enough to justify military action.

    A bipartisan group of U.S. lawmakers unveiled a draft bill on Thursday to help civilians, including law enforcement agents, receive workers’ compensation for illnesses like cancer that are often associated with toxic exposure to burn pits.

    The Kenya Merritt Renewing Our Promise to Address Toxicity Act — named for FBI Special Agent Kenya Merritt, who died from lung cancer after he was exposed to toxic burn pits during his service in Iraq — would put civilian employees on the same legal footing as military service members and make it easier for them to receive benefits.

    A law passed in 2022 made it easier for military members who were exposed to burn pits during their tours of duty to get approved for compensation. But civilians, who have sometimes also served alongside military members in places like Iraq and Afghanistan, were not covered by the bill. As a result, they are required to prove there is a direct connection between their illness and the exposure to toxic chemicals when they apply to the U.S. Department of Labor for workers’ compensation.

    If enacted into law, it would create a presumption that certain illnesses are work-related for eligible federal employees exposed to burn pits during overseas operations. It would also align civilian protections with the Department of Veterans Affairs legal framework for service members exposed to burn pits.

    “According to the Department of Labor investigators, every single civilian federal burn pit-related claim has been denied,” said Democratic Rep. Nellie Pou of New Jersey, who is introducing the bill along with Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, and Republican Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and Celeste Maloy of Utah.

    “That’s an outrage. And it cannot stand,” Pou added.

    The bill was unveiled at Capitol Hill by lawmakers and the FBI Agents Association, which is championing the measure, as the country celebrates Police Week.

    Natalie Bara, president of the FBI Agents Association, told reporters Thursday that the bureau supports the bill as well, adding that there have been thousands of agents who have gone overseas and have been exposed to burn pits throughout the past two decades.
