Streamer who said Rick Scott should be ‘killed’ invited to Yale as lawmaker demands funding cut

    April 10, 2026 5:18pm EDT / Fox News

Hasan Piker, who has drawn fire for previous comments on 9/11 and Oct 7, 2023, is set to appear at the Yale Political Union Tuesday

A Senate Republican wants federal funding revoked from Yale for a forthcoming speech from a controversial streamer who once called for him to be “killed.”

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., blasted an upcoming event at the Ivy League university featuring Twitch streamer and political commentator Hasan Piker, who has become a flashpoint for Democrats and fodder for conservatives because of his views and alignment with the far-left of the party.

Piker, who has come under fire for his previous comments that “America deserved 9/11” and for excusing sexual violence committed on Oct. 7, 2023, when Hamas launched a surprise attack against Israel, is set to appear at the Yale Political Union for an event dubbed “Resolved: End the American Empire” Tuesday.

Leftist streamer’s past comments resurface as Michigan candidate declines to disavow

Fox News contributor Mary Katharine Ham discusses Hasan Piker’s controversial commentary and his ties to Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed on ‘The Will Cain Show.’

SENATE GOP VOWS TO ‘GO IT ALONE’ ON ICE FUNDING AS DEMS DOUBLE DOWN ON SHUTDOWN

“This is WILD,” Scott said on X. “I spoke at the Yale Political Union last year on why we need to buy made in America products. Now, they are hosting a guy who said I should be killed.”

“Yale receives billions from the federal government — President Trump and Congress need to IMMEDIATELY revoke it,” he continued. “An elite private university that hosts an antisemite who says a Senator should be killed, capitalists should be killed, and the U.S. deserved 9/11, shouldn’t get ONE CENT from taxpayers.”

The Yale Political Union did not respond to a request for comment on Scott’s push to nix funding for the university.

Scott and Piker have had a run-in, indirectly, before.

When Republicans were crafting President Donald Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” in 2025, Piker said during a stream — in reaction to comments from House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., that Republicans were targeting Medicaid fraud — that Scott should be killed.

“The reason why I’m saying, if you cared about Medicare or Medicaid fraud, you would kill Rick Scott is because — and not make him a prominent part of the Republican Party — is because he, to this day, is still also known as committing the largest Medicare fraud in U.S. history,” Piker said.

At the time, Republicans were trying to include several provisions in the budget reconciliation process that they pitched as reforms to Medicaid designed to cut costs and root out fraud in the system.

A provider rate crackdown; denying states Medicaid funding for having illegal immigrants on the benefit rolls; preventing illegal immigrants from participating in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP); and preventing Medicaid and CHIP funding from going toward gender-affirming care were all on the table.

However, those provisions were gutted from the bill for not complying with the strict guardrails that dictate the reconciliation process. Still, Republicans were able to include stringent work requirements for the healthcare program.

Rep. Eric Swalwell’s bid for the California governor’s office was reeling Friday as staffers resigned and top Democratic supporters withdrew their endorsements in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct.

California Sen. Adam Schiff and Arizona Sen. Ruben Gallego, both longtime allies, said they were withdrawing their endorsements. Swalwell’s campaign chair, Rep. Jimmy Gomez, said he’d quit the position. And a top adviser, Courtni Pugh, who was Swalwell’s liaison to labor groups, told CNN she had left the campaign “as soon as I learned the seriousness of the allegations,” and that she didn’t know how many others had also quit.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she had told Swalwell to end his bid. California Gov. Gavin Newsom did not immediately call on Swalwell to drop out but said in a statement: “As we continue to learn more, these allegations from multiple sources are deeply troubling and must be taken seriously.”

Meanwhile, several of Swalwell’s rivals in the governor’s race called on him to drop out following reports by CNN and the San Francisco Chronicle in which women accused Swalwell of sexual misconduct.

Etienne Laurent/AFP/Getty Images Exclusive: Four women describe sexual misconduct by Rep. Eric Swalwell, including a former staffer who says he raped her 19 min read

The pressure on Swalwell, with new statements denouncing him being released in rapid succession, mounts as the allegations roil a wide-open race just weeks before voters begin casting their ballots. Candidates are competing in a nonpartisan primary that features a half-dozen prominent Democrats and two leading Republicans. Only the top two finishers, regardless of party, will advance to the general election.

CNN spoke to four women who alleged various kinds of sexual misconduct by Swalwell, ranging from inappropriate messages and pictures to unwanted kissing and touching — and in one case, rape.

A former staffer of Swalwell says that the congressman raped her when she was heavily intoxicated and left her bruised and bleeding, an allegation Swalwell strongly denies.

One woman who connected online with Swalwell over her interest in Democratic politics says she ended up extremely drunk inside his hotel room after a night out with the congressman, with little memory of what occurred. Earlier in the night at a bar, he kissed her and touched her leg without her consent, she said.

Another woman, who described receiving unsolicited nude messages from Swalwell, was social media creator Ally Sammarco. She said she initially reached out to the congressman on Twitter to discuss politics. “I truly never thought he would respond – I had like 1,000 followers at the time,” she said. “And he actually responded.”

    Swalwell denied the women’s allegations.

“These allegations are false and come on the eve of an election against the front-runner for governor,” Swalwell said in a statement to CNN. “For nearly 20 years, I have served the public – as a prosecutor and a congressman and have always protected women. I will defend myself with the facts and where necessary bring legal action. My focus in the coming days is to be with my wife and children and defend our decades of service against these lies.”

A spokesman for Swalwell’s campaign did not respond to a request for comment on the defections from his campaign Friday.

Rep. Jimmy Gomez, a campaign chair, said Friday in a statement that he had “learned shocking information about Eric Swalwell containing the ugliest and most serious accusations imaginable.”

He also called on Swalwell to drop out of the race just weeks before voters begin casting ballots ahead of the June primary.

“My involvement in any campaign begins and ends with trust. I cannot in good conscience remain in any role with this campaign, and I am stepping down from it effective immediately,” Gomez said. “The congressman should leave the race now so there can be full accountability without doubt, distraction, or delay.”

Schiff, a crucial home-state supporter of Swalwell, also said he was withdrawing his endorsement and said Swalwell should exit the race.

Gallego, the Arizona senator who had defended Swalwell earlier in the week, said in a statement Friday he regretted having done so, and said what Swalwell is accused of is “indefensible.”

“Women who come forward with accounts like this deserve to be heard with respect, not questioned or dismissed,” Gallego said. “I regret having come to his defense on social media prior to knowing all the information. I am equally as shocked and upset about what has transpired. I am withdrawing my endorsement of Congressman Swalwell, effective immediately.”

Several of Swalwell’s opponents in the governor’s race also called on him to drop out.

“Eric Swalwell should be nowhere near any position of power, much less be the governor of California. He must resign from Congress and drop out of the race immediately,” said billionaire activist and investor Tom Steyer, a top Democratic gubernatorial candidate.

Golden eagles, lions and a winged Lady Liberty top Trump’s proposed 250-foot DC Triumphal Arch designs

Trump aims to ‘make DC beautiful again’ with grand ‘Triumphal Arch’ plan

Chief of Protocol Monica Crowley joins ‘Fox & Friends Weekend’ to discuss President Donald Trump’s vision to restore beauty and classical design to Washington, D.C., including plans for a Triumphal Arch marking America’s 250th anniversary.

NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles!

The fate of the President Donald Trump-touted 250-foot Triumphal Arch will be decided next week at a White House Commission of Fine Arts (CFA) meeting after the official proposed designs of the monument were filed by the Trump administration and released for the first time Friday.

“I am pleased to announce that TODAY my Administration officially filed the presentation and plans to the highly respected Commission of Fine Arts for what will be the GREATEST and MOST BEAUTIFUL Triumphal Arch, anywhere in the World,” Trump said in Truth Social post.

“This will be a wonderful addition to the Washington D.C. area for all Americans to enjoy for many decades to come!”

TRUMP ADMIN OFFICIALS REVEAL DETAILS OF FREEDOM 250 GRAND PRIX IN DC

Speculation has swirled about the final look of the proposed arch since late last year, with many iterations making the rounds on social media before the official mock-ups were shared earlier today.

The mock-up, designed by architecture firm Harrison Design, is a 12-page addendum shared on the Commission of Fine Arts official meeting page.

The phrase “ONE NATION UNDER GOD” emblazons the Triumphal Arch in this mock-up design from Harrison Design, as Principal Architect Nicolas Charbonneau is primarily renowned for his work on Catholic churches. The back of the arch has a matching emblem that says “LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL.”(Harrison Design via the White House Commission of Fine Arts)

According to those mock-ups, the arch rises to 250 feet, evoking the nation’s 250th anniversary and more than double the height of the nearby 99-foot Lincoln Memorial.

The central opening of the arch in the provided designs is roughly 110 feet high, providing a picture frame effect for both the Lincoln Memorial across the Potomac River and Arlington National Cemetery.

The arch’s location would be roughly equidistant from both landmarks, sitting at the roundabout between Memorial Bridge and Memorial Avenue near the Arlington Cemetery Metro Stop.

The scale would be unlike any monument in Washington, D.C., with the arch theoretically dwarfing nearby memorials and towering above the roadway.

TRUMP ADMIN URGES RESTORING BALLROOM CONSTRUCTION IN EMERGENCY MOTION: ‘TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE’

In this mock-up provided by Harrison Design using an overhead map from Google Earth, the scale and distance of the Triumphal Arch to nearby Washington, D.C., and Arlington, Va., monuments is clarified.(Harrison Design via the White House Commission of Fine Arts)

Friday’s released designs revealed a golden, winged Lady Liberty-style figure atop the arch flanked by two bald eagles crowning the monument and adding even more height to the structure. This is in contrast to previous possible designs Trump posted to social media in January, which had no ornamentation atop the arch.

The most iconic detail released in Friday’s design, emblazoned across the top of the large central archway, are golden letters that say “ONE NATION UNDER GOD” centered on its white stone facade.

Harrison Design confirmed to Fox News Digital that the principal architect behind the arch is Nicolas Charbonneau, the award-winning director of Harrison Design’s Sacred Architecture Studio. He is known primarily for his work on churches.

“The world is ordered so that there’s a harmony to everything,” Charbonneau told The Arlington Catholic Herald. “And we’ve been designed to know that there should be an ordering to what we do. A lot of modern architecture flies in the face of that.”

According to the mock-ups reviewed by Fox News Digital, there appear to be internal staircases within the arch’s pedestals leading to what is implied to be a viewing deck for visitors to the monument. Four golden lions sit at each corner of the monument, renderings show.

The White House reiterated its goals for the monument in a statement it had previously shared with Fox News Digital earlier this year when asked for comment.

“The Triumphal Arch in Memorial Circle is going to be one of the most iconic landmarks not only in Washington, D.C., but throughout the world,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle reiterated in a statement to Fox News Digital.

“It will enhance the visitor experience at Arlington National Cemetery for veterans, the families of the fallen and all Americans alike, serving as a visual reminder of the noble sacrifices borne by so many American heroes throughout our 250-year history so we can enjoy our freedoms today. President Trump will continue to honor our veterans and give the greatest nation on earth — America — the glory it deserves.”

Trump has previously touted the arch, saying he’d “like it to be the biggest one of all,” adding, “We’re the biggest, most powerful nation.”

The Commission of Fine Arts, founded in 1910, consists of members who are personally selected by the sitting president and describes itself as “an independent federal agency charged with giving expert advice to the President, the Congress and the federal and District of Columbia governments on matters of design and aesthetics.”

Anthropic’s Mythos AI can spot weaknesses in almost every computer on earth. Uh-oh.

    April 10, 2026 / 6:42 PM EDT / CBS News

Anthropic’s latest AI technology, called Mythos, is so powerful at revealing software vulnerabilities that the company is afraid to release the model publicly lest it fall into the hands of bad actors.

The company, the developer behind the Claude AI chatbot, said in a post on its website this week that the new tool has already uncovered thousands of weak points in “every major operating system and web browser.”

Although that capability could prove to be a boon for protecting critical systems, it is also stirring concerns that hackers could exploit Mythos to attack the IT infrastructure at banks, hospitals, government systems and many other organizations.

    Preparing for the “storm”

Rather than releasing Mythos to the public, Anthropic is sharing the tech with a select group of major companies, including Amazon, Apple, Cisco, JPMorgan Chase and Nvidia, so they can test the model and strengthen their own systems against cyberattacks. Called Project Glasswing, the effort is aimed at helping key companies harden their defenses before hackers get access to Mythos or similar AI models, according to Anthropic.

At the same time, security experts said, the concerns around Mythos attest to the dangers of AI if it is weaponized for harm.

“What we need to do is look at this as a wake-up call to say, the storm isn’t coming — the storm is here,” Alissa Valentina Knight, CEO of cybersecurity AI company Assail, told CBS News. “We need to prepare ourselves, because we couldn’t keep up with the bad guys when it was humans hacking into our networks. We certainly can’t keep up now if they’re using AI because it’s so much devastatingly faster and more capable.”

Mythos’ capabilities are also sparking concern among federal officials. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell met with top bank CEOs in a closed-door meeting on Tuesday to discuss Mythos and other emerging cybersecurity risks stemming from AI. Anthropic also briefed senior U.S. government officials and key industry stakeholders on Mythos’s capabilities, CBS News has learned.

Separately, IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said in an interview set to air Sunday on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” that the world does not have the ability “to protect the international monetary system against massive cyber risks.”

“The risks have been growing exponentially,” Georgieva said. “Yes, we are concerned. We are very keen to see more attention to the guardrails that are necessary to protect financial stability in the world of AI.”

Anthropic didn’t return a request for comment. In its post, however, the company underscored the risks of misusing tools like Mythos. “The fallout — for economies, public safety, and national security — could be severe,” the company said.

    The weakest link

Such stark warnings mask another troubling reality: Hackers already have access to advanced AI models and are using them for a range of malign purposes, including to create autonomous “agents” capable of carrying out attacks without human intervention.

Such attacks range from spreading malware and executing identity theft scams to producing deepfake videos and launching ransomware attacks, according to cybersecurity experts.

“AI-enabled tooling has empowered even low-skilled threat actors to execute high-speed, high-volume operations, whilst advanced adversaries are using AI to sharpen precision, scale automation and compress attack timelines,” PwC said in a recent report.

“The time between the public release of a new capability by an AI company and its weaponization by threat actors shrank dramatically [in 2025], a trend we assess will likely accelerate in 2026,” the management consulting firm added,

Other AI tools, while not yet as effective as Mythos in exposing the soft underbelly in software, are already amplifying the risks to consumers, businesses and governments. For instance, hackers are tapping AI to sharpen so-called phishing attacks aimed at prying loose confidential information, said Zach Lewis, the chief information officer at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis.

“It’s been used to really script those dialogues, those conversations, those phishing emails, to specific people — and really customize them to make them a lot more difficult to detect and identify if these are fake or not,” he told CBS News.

“Once [Mythos] drops, we’re going to see a lot more vulnerabilities, probably a lot more attacks,” Lewis said. “Cyberattacks are definitely going to increase until we get to a point where we’re patching up all those vulnerabilities almost in real time.”

AI is more effective than humans at finding software bugs because it can quickly scan thousands of lines of code and detect problems, something people are not necessarily good at, Knight explained.

“Humans are the weakest link in security,” Knight noted. “Humans have the ability to make mistakes when we’re writing code. It’s possible for vulnerabilities in source code to have never been found by humans.”

    On brand for Anthropic?

Some security experts questioned the motives behind Anthropic’s incremental approach to rolling out Mythos, speculating that the limited release could be aimed at stirring intrest from other prospective customers.

Meanwhile, both Anthropic and rival OpenAI are expected to launch initial public offerings by the end of the year, according to the Wall Street Journal — a possible incentive to drum up headlines, said Peter Garraghan, founder and Chief Science Officer at Mindgard, an AI security platform.

“I suspect Anthropic may be using this as a marketing ploy, perhaps towards IPO,” he said.

Anthropic has sought to distinguish its brand from OpenAI and other rivals by publicly emphasizing AI safety, highlighting its guardrails for keeping the technology in line. Anthropic’s decision to hold off on releasing Mythos and launching Project Glasswing aligns with that image, noted Columbia Business School marketing lecturer Malek Ben Sliman.

“When facing the tough decisions, Anthropic has actually been true to its values,” he said. Curating the release of Mythos “does allow them to look to be the protectors of this responsible AI, but it also is a great marketing and advertising tool.”

WASHINGTON, April 10 (Reuters) – U.S. Representative Jamie Raskin of Maryland told fellow House Democrats on Friday that he will introduce legislation creating a commission to facilitate the removal of any president deemed unable to carry out their duties, according ‌to a House Judiciary Committee spokeswoman.

A “Commission on Presidential Capacity to Discharge the Powers and Duties of the Office” bill was first introduced by Raskin, now the senior Democrat on the committee, in 2020, when Donald Trump was in his first presidential term.

In recent days, Democrats in Congress have begun talking about pushing for the impeachment of Trump, now in his second term, or trying to trigger the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which provides the bare-bones process for taking away a president’s power in a procedure separate from impeachment.

Trump earlier this week caused widespread alarm and anger after he said “a whole civilization will die” in Iran unless its government agreed to allow ships to freely pass through the Strait of Hormuz. Shipping there has been interrupted following Trump’s decision to launch, along with Israel, a military attack on Iran that began on February 28.

The Raskin legislation is ‌unlikely to advance in the Republican-controlled House, where Speaker Mike Johnson is a strong defender of Trump.

Republicans in the House and Senate have blocked Democrats’ moves to pass a separate resolution to end the Iran war that was never authorized by Congress.

The Raskin bill would create a 17-member bipartisan commission if it is determined that the president cannot perform the duties of the office because of physical disability or mental deficiency or because of drug or alcohol use or other conditions.

Trump was subjected to two impeachment proceedings during his first term, each of which ended with acquittal by the Republican-controlled Senate.

Since then, most Democrats have shied away from talking about impeachment. But Trump’s latest military foray in Iran and his failure to lay out clear objectives have emboldened many Democrats to begin talking about removing Trump from power – a strategy that is not necessarily embraced by all in the party caucus.

Paul Dans, the architect of the controversial conservative blueprint known as Project 2025, has ended his bid to challenge South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham in the Republican primary this summer.

Dans announced his decision to drop out of the race Friday — the last day to remove his name from the state’s June ballot — in a post on X. He also endorsed Mark Lynch, an appliance store owner, reiterating his desire to see Graham ousted from office.

“I am proud to endorse @MarkLynchSC and will do everything in my power to get him elected to the U.S. Senate,” Dans wrote. “Mr. President we here in South Carolina love you, but we don’t trust Lady Graham to help you put America first,” he added, including a derogatory moniker he has repeatedly used for the veteran senator.

President Donald Trump celebrated Dans’ exit and doubled down on his support for Graham, a close friend. Writing on Truth Social, Trump suggested Dans’ campaign suffered from an endorsement by conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, whom Trump has sparred with in recent days over the Iran war.

“It all started to fall apart for Paul when a very Low IQ individual named Tucker Carlson ENDORSED him — THE KISS OF DEATH!” Trump wrote. “Lindsey has a BIG lead, and is on his way to a spectacular VICTORY because he just, GETS THINGS DONE!”

Trump also attacked Lynch in a separate post noting his past support for Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie, with whom the president is also feuding.

Dans launched his campaign for US Senate in July. He carried considerable baggage into the race, including loose connections to the state and the lingering fallout from his work for the Heritage Foundation. There, he spearheaded Project 2025, a right-wing roadmap for the next Republican president put together by more than 100 conservative organizations in the lead up to the 2024 election that Trump attempted to distance himself from during his political comeback. Amid the blowback, Dans was forced out of the Heritage Foundation, which remains loyal to Trump.

Still, Dans believed there was a lane to defeat Graham, who turns 71 in July and is seeking his fifth term in the Senate. Graham has divided some Republicans with his unflinching support for Israel and overtures backing Trump’s war with Iran. But Dans and other Republicans have struggled to make headway against Graham amid a divided field.

Court poised to block Trump tariffs again, teeing up new fight

The Court of International Trade on Friday appeared skeptical of President Donald Trump’s use of a little-known emergency trade law to justify his sweeping, 10% global tariffs — teeing up a familiar, if technically new, legal fight focused on when and how a sitting president can act to unilaterally impose steep import fees on most U.S. trading partners.

During nearly two hours of arguments, a three-judge panel for the U.S. Court of International Trade grappled with Trump’s use of Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 — an emergency provision designed to address “large and serious” balance-of-payments problems — and its applicability in today’s economy.

Under Section 122, a president has the authority to unilaterally impose import fees of up to 15% on U.S. trading partners for a period of 150 days, to respond to large and serious “balance of payments deficits,” or instances that risk immediately depreciating the power of the dollar.

Arguments before the court hinged on interpretation of the “balance of payments deficits” phrase, and whether the persistent U.S. trade deficits cited by Trump in invoking Section 122 aligned with the kind of crisis that Congress had envisioned when it passed the trade law in the mid-1970s.

Members of the three-judge panel appeared skeptical of the Trump administration’s arguments, and questioned whether Congress intended the statute to apply to specific instances of international currency pressures, rather than long-running trade imbalances.

“Are you really saying that a large trade deficit alone is sufficient?” the judge asked Justice Department lawyer Brett Shumate, adding, “I don’t think it is, and I think Congress didn’t think it is.”

Congress, Shumate argued, had provided presidents with broad discretion to assess economic conditions, and to identify what “balance of power” deficits warrant emergency intervention.

Shumate also ticked through a list of other economic indicators Trump cited in his proclamation — including the current account deficit, and the “net international investment” position, among other things.

“The important point,” Shumate said, “is that Congress provided the president [with] discretion.”

The arguments come weeks after a group of 24 attorneys general sued the administration over Trump’s use of Section 122, arguing that the move was an illegal attempt to “sidestep” the Supreme Court’s ruling in February that blocked Trump’s use of an emergency economic powers law to unilaterally impose his so-called “Liberation Day” tariffs.

Shumate said Friday that both authorities — IEEPA and Section 122 — were available to Trump, and told the court that Trump could have invoked Section 122 earlier.

Lawyers for the challenges told the court Friday that upholding the administration’s broader view of the law would effectively turn Section 122 into an all-purpose trade weapon.

Jeffrey Schwab, a lawyer representing one set of challengers in Friday’s case, said the government’s theory was “very, very, very broad,” adding that it could allow the president to act “at any point, at any moment that he wants, forever.”

Trump is the first president to attempt to use both IEEPA and Section 122 to unilaterally impose tariffs.

The case is seen broadly as one that could help define the outer bounds of presidential tariff authority.

If nothing else, the novelty of both cases, and the skepticism on display by the trade court Friday suggests the new Section 122 tariffs might follow a legal fight that is similar to his first.

Trump administration unveils renderings of its proposed gold-accented arch

This rendering shows the design for President Donald Trump’s proposed “Triumphal Arch” in Washington, DC.

    US Commission of Fine Arts

Designs for a towering, gold-accented triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery were revealed by the White House on Friday – providing more insight into the latest iteration of President Donald Trump’s desire to mold the physical footprint of Washington, DC, into his own vision.

The proposed 250-foot arch, pictured on a traffic circle between the cemetery’s entrance and the Lincoln Memorial, is topped by a golden statue of a winged Lady Liberty holding a shield and a torch. Two golden eagles sit beneath the statue’s wings in the renderings prepared by Harrison Design, a Washington architectural firm.

The Trump administration shared the renderings with the Commission on Fine Arts, a government agency that would need to approve the designs.

The structure evokes Paris’ Arc de Triomphe, though it would exceed its height by more than 80 feet . It would be more than double the height of the nearby Lincoln Memorial.

Other gold-plated features include two phrases: “One Nation Under God” on the side of the arch that faces the Lincoln Memorial and “Liberty and Justice for All” on the portion that faces the cemetery; golden garnish lining the uppermost level of the arch; accents inside the arch itself and several gold lions on pedestals surrounding the structure.

The administration has proposed the structure as a way to commemorate the United States’ 250th birthday. But the proposal has raised alarms since Trump unveiled the idea due to the way it would block historically significant views in either direction and for potential hazards related to its location near a runway at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport.

A veterans group has sued the federal government to block construction of the arch, arguing that the project would dishonor the service of veterans by obstructing the view to Arlington Memorial Cemetery and “would degrade their personal experience when visiting Arlington Cemetery or traveling around Memorial Circle and on the Memorial Avenue Corridor.”

The arch is one of several efforts to impose the president’s aesthetic tastes across the nation’s capital, including Trump’s demolition of the East Wing to make room for a sprawling White House ballroom, the paving over of the Rose Garden in the style of his Mar-a-Lago club, and planned renovations of the Kennedy Center, which now bears Trump’s name on the building’s facade.

Rep. Don Beyer, a Virginia Democrat whose district abuts the site of the proposed arch, said the arch was meant to cater to Trump’s “ego.”

“While Americans worry about skyrocketing costs and another endless war, President Trump is focused on a taxpayer-funded vanity project that would choke traffic, block our skyline, and tower over sacred ground where those who served our nation are buried, including my own parents and sister,” Beyer said in a post on X.
