Hillary Clinton still fuming over Electoral College, calls it an ‘abomination’ in new Netflix series

The five-part series also features Kamala Harris, Mike Pence, Al Gore and Ted Cruz

    June 24, 2026 9:15am EDT / Fox News

Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton is still railing against the Electoral College, which cost her the presidency in 2016, calling it an “abomination” in a trailer for the new Netflix docuseries titled “The American Experiment.”

In a trailer for the upcoming series, which is executive-produced by Tom Hanks, Clinton remarks, “Well, I personally think the Electoral College is an abomination. For obvious reasons.”

Set to drop today, the new five-part docuseries marks 250 years of U.S. independence by examining “how American democracy has been built, challenged, and reimagined” over the course of its centuries-long history, according to Netflix’s Tudum. In addition to Clinton, the series will feature interviews with dozens of politicians and historians, including former Vice Presidents Kamala Harris, Mike Pence and Al Gore, as well as Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

The push for abolishing the Electoral College, which was instituted in 1787, has gained increased support in some corners of the left, especially after Clinton’s 2016 loss to President Donald Trump. Though Clinton won the national popular vote, Trump secured several key swing states that gave him the Electoral College edge, sending him to the White House.

WHAT IS THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE? HOW DOES IT WORK?

After her loss, Clinton lambasted the system, calling it “the god-forsaken Electoral College” in her 2017 memoir “What Happened.” In an interview with CNN host Anderson Cooper, Clinton reaffirmed her call to abolish the Electoral College, referring to it as “an anachronism that was designed for another time” that “no longer works.”

“We’ve moved toward one person, one vote, that’s how we select winners,” she continued, adding, “I think it needs to be eliminated, I’d like to see us move beyond it.”

Months before Trump’s 2024 victory over Harris, Clinton again raised concerns about the Electoral College, saying in an interview with The 19th, “We are the underdog, that just kind of goes with the territory when we have the Electoral College staring at you.”

Trump defeated Harris both in the Electoral College and in the popular vote.

Fox News Digital reached out to Clinton for additional comment.

In the trailer for the new docuseries, Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., states that “the founders themselves were not in love with the Electoral College” and “it was defective from the beginning.”

“We have a problem that a minority of the population, because of the structure of the Electoral College — in some cases, over the objections of the majority — is ruling the majority,” added Lofgren.

Discussing Clinton’s interview, director Brian Knappenberger told Variety, “I knew I would be asking former Secretary of State and presidential candidate Hillary Clinton about one of the most painful moments of her life.”

“She has rarely spoken candidly about that election night and we’re really happy she talked about it for the series,” said Knappenberger, adding, “She has a unique perspective as one of only five people in American history to lose the presidency after winning the popular vote. The 2016 election also stands out because Hillary Clinton defeated Donald Trump in the popular vote by such a significant margin.”

Fox News Digital also reached out to Netflix, Knappenberger and Lofgren for comment.

US Postal Service tells Congress it needs help, running out of cash

WASHINGTON, June 24 (Reuters) – U.S. Postmaster General David Steiner told Congress on Wednesday that the financially struggling agency has a broken business model and needs help from lawmakers to turn around ‌its operations.

“The bottom line is that we are out of cash. We are borrowing from our employees’ retirement funds to continue operations,” Steiner’s written testimony before a U.S. Senate committee said, warning it could run out of operating funds in months if it stopped deferring obligations. “The Postal Service has a broken business model and action is needed by Congress to fix it.”

Steiner wants Congress to compensate it for money-losing operations and make other reforms. In March, Steiner said the Postal Service was hiring restructuring advisers to help address its financial troubles.

One key question is whether USPS should continue to deliver to 170 million addresses six days a week, which costs $3.4 billion annually — and 70% of those routes lose money, Steiner said. About 58% of its 18,000 ‌Post Offices also lose money.

The Postal Service has reported net losses of about $120 billion since 2007, as first-class mail, its most profitable product, has fallen sharply with the shift to digital communication even as the agency must maintain costly nationwide delivery operations.

USPS said last month it was suspending non-essential spending on travel, office supplies and consultants. Steiner told officers in a memo the moves were “to protect core operations and ensure we can continue meeting all essential obligations.”

Last month, the Postal Service said it would temporarily suspend employer payments for a federal pension program and plans to raise the price of first-class mail stamps to 82 cents from 78 cents, effective July 12.

Suspending employee pension contributions will conserve $2.5 billion through September 30 and potentially $15 billion through 2030.

American boy, 12, attacked by shark in Bahamas while swimming with brother

    June 24, 2026 / 9:03 AM EDT / CBS News

A 12-year-old American boy is in stable condition after being attacked by a shark in the Bahamas, authorities said Wednesday.

The boy was on a tour of the Exuma Cays with his family when the incident occurred, according to a statement from the Royal Bahamas Police Force. He was swimming in Staniel Cay, along with his brother, when he was attacked by the shark at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.

The RBPF did not specify what injuries the boy sustained, but said he was transported by boat to New Providence, the most populous island in the Bahamas and home to the country’s capital city of Nassau. He received medical treatment, police said. His condition is stable as of Wednesday.

The Exuma Cays are popular for swimming, snorkeling and scuba diving. The waters off Staniel Cay hold coral reefs and shipwrecks, and are home to a range of wildlife including sea turtles, stingrays and sharks. The Royal Bahamas Police Force did not specify what kind of shark bit the boy.

The Bahamas, a range of over 700 islands, has one of the world’s highest rates of unprovoked shark attacks. While the country is small, it has the ninth-highest number of such attacks according to the International Shark Attack File, a database that tracks human-shark encounters around the world. However, the attacks are still extremely rare: The database shows just 30 confirmed, unprovoked shark attacks in the Bahamas over the past 400 years.

Multiple Americans have been injured by shark attacks in the Bahamas in recent years. In February 2025, two American women were attacked while swimming off Bimini Bay, in the westernmost part of the Bahamas. One woman was seriously injured.

Later, in August 2025, a 63-year-old American man was severely injured when he was attacked by a shark while spearfishing off the island of Abaco. The man was airlifted to the United States for additional treatment.

In January 2024, a 10-year-old boy from Maryland was bitten on the leg by a shark and hospitalized. A Boston woman died after being attacked by a shark while paddleboarding with a family member in December 2023.
