Mayor Zohran Mamdani is facing a Muslim problem with local Muslim activists planning to spill into the streets Tuesday night outside Gracie Mansion, where protesters will accuse the mayor of promoting what they describe as an extreme form of Islamism.

Meanwhile, Mamdani, New York City’s first Muslim mayor, is also facing criticism from hardline anti-Israel activists who argue he has not gone far enough in support of Palestinian activism after taking office.

Anila Ali, president of the American Muslim & Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council, said she plans to join Tuesday night’s protest because she believes Mamdani’s politics are alienating moderate Muslims and damaging relations between Muslim and Jewish communities in New York.

“With Mamdani in office, we feel our religion is now hijacked once again and is being used by these Islamists,” Ali told Fox News Digital in a video interview.

Ali described herself as part of a post-9/11 movement of “moderate Muslims” who reject Islamist extremism and believe Islam is compatible with coexistence, religious freedom and life in America.

She described Islamism as a hardline political ideology that merges religion and politics, and she argued Mamdani represents a more radical version of Islam than the moderate faith practiced by many American Muslims.

She said moderate Muslims don’t identify with Islamist groups such as the Council on American Islamic Affairs (CAIR), which she accused of monopolizing public representation of Islam in America and promoting a hardline Islamist movement. Ali said many moderate Muslims feel increasingly sidelined by activist groups and political organizations they believe do not represent their faith or values.

“Zohran Mamdani is their success story. The Muslim Brotherhood, they backed him,” Ali told Fox News Digital in a video interview.

ZOHRAN MAMDANI SAYS HE WILL DISCOURAGE ‘GLOBALIZE THE INTIFADA’ PHRASE

However, criticism of Mamdani is not only coming from moderate Muslim and interfaith activists. Hardline anti-Israel activists have also criticized the mayor for not going far enough in support of Palestinian activism after taking office.

“When he said that Israel has the right to exist, I also clearly called that out,” anti-Israel activist Nerdeen Kiswani, a Palestinian-American activist, told Fox News Digital last week. Kiswani is the co-founder of the pro-Palestinian group Within Our Lifetime, which staged a Nakba rally in New York on May 15 where demonstrators chanted “globalize the intifada.

Kiswani also criticized Mamdani for what she described as walking back his earlier defense of the phrase “globalize the intifada” and softening his stance on Palestinian activism after taking office.

“I don’t think he or any politician is doing enough in support of Palestinian liberation,” Kiswani said.

The divide has turned Mamdani into a local flashpoint in a broader political battle playing out across the United States, where anti-Israel activism, Islamist movements and far-left groups have increasingly merged into overlapping protest coalitions.

Ali said Mamdani’s support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, his comments surrounding Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state and his defense of slogans such as “globalize the intifada” have alienated many moderate Muslims and worsened tensions between Muslims and Jews in New York.

“They start with the Jewish people — that’s not where they’re going to end,” Ali said.

“But more importantly, what he’s done is he’s damaged interfaith relations. He’s damaged the image of Islam.”

Ali said that Mamdani still retains strong support from progressive and pro-Palestinian activist groups that helped fuel his political rise.

Tuesday’s protest outside Gracie Mansion, Ali said, is intended to show Muslims, Jews and Christians standing together against what she described as extremist Islamist politics masquerading as mainstream Islam.

“[Mamdani] starts teaching our kids, Muslim kids and American kids, Islamism 101,” Ali said, referring to what she described as efforts to normalize Islamist political ideology through activism and identity politics.

Ali also described Mamdani’s politics as part of a “red-green alliance” between Islamist activists and the far left.

She warned New York risks following the path of British cities such as Bradford, Birmingham and Manchester, which she described as overtaken by extremism and division. The cities have long been at the center of debates in the United Kingdom over immigration, Islamist extremism, segregation and multiculturalism.

“The radical Islamism, it’s just unbearable to see what’s happened to the UK,” she said.

The protest is being organized by End Jew Hatred alongside a coalition of Muslim, Jewish and Christian groups, including the American Muslim & Multifaith Women’s Empowerment Council and the Catholic League.

CAIR acknowledged Fox News Digital’s request for comment. Mamdani’s office did not immediately respond.

Alabama warns healthcare providers against use of non-FDA-approved peptides

    May 26, 2026 10:24 PM UTC / Reuters

May 26 (Reuters) – Alabama’s medical regulator on Tuesday warned healthcare providers against prescribing or using so-called research-grade peptides, saying the substances are not approved by the U.S. ‌FDA and may pose safety risks.

    Here are a few details:

Jumpstart your morning with the latest legal news delivered straight to your inbox from The Daily Docket newsletter. Sign up here.

    • The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners said the peptides have not been tested or reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and are not subject to oversight on safety, effectiveness or manufacturing standards, making it difficult to verify their contents or assess potential risks.
    • Peptides are short chains of amino acids that act as building blocks of proteins and perform essential biological functions in the body.
    • In an official notice, the board said physicians must only prescribe and dispense drugs obtained from licensed sources and ‌meeting prescription-grade standards, and cannot use or supply non-FDA-approved peptides under any circumstances.
    • The restriction also applies to certified nurse midwives, nurse practitioners and physician assistants, who are limited to prescribing drugs on approved formularies.
    • Healthcare providers cannot avoid liability by labeling products as “research-grade” or relying on patient consent forms, the board said, adding that any involvement in recommending, prescribing or administering such substances would violate professional and legal obligations.
    • Separately, the FDA is set to convene an advisory panel in July to consider whether licensed compounding pharmacies should be allowed to manufacture certain peptides.

Southern Poverty Law Center seeks dismissal of criminal charges, saying prosecution is vindictive

    May 26, 2026 / 5:12 PM EDT / CBS News

Washington— The Southern Poverty Law Center on Tuesday asked a federal judge to dismiss the criminal charges filed against it by the Justice Department, saying the indictment represents a “top-down, retributive campaign” directed by President Trump to target his enemies.

The 47-page filing in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Alabama documents a series of public statements by the president and other top administration officials targeting the center, including one in which Mr. Trump called it “one of the greatest political scams in American History.”

“This is the very definition of a vindictive prosecution,” lawyers for the SPLC wrote. “The Court should dismiss the indictment as a violation of due process.”

The Justice Department secured an 11-count indictment in April, chargingthe civil rights nonprofit with wire fraud and bank fraud. The indictment alleges that the group, which is best known for its work to oppose the Ku Klux Klan, lied to donors about paying confidential informants to infiltrate hate groups and deceived banks about the bank accounts used to make those payments.

The SPLC has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and vowed to fight them.

It is generally difficult to prevail in getting charges dismissed on the grounds of vindictive prosecution, but such requests have become increasingly common amid rising concerns among current and former Justice Department officials about cases being driven by political retribution.

Just last week, a federal judge dismissed smuggling charges against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, a Salvadoran-born Maryland resident who was mistakenly deported by the Trump administration last year. The judge found that the Justice Department’s prosecution was vindictive.

Numerous former federal prosecutors have publicly weighed in on the indictment against the SPLC, saying it appears to be weak and has a likely chance of being dismissed due to a variety of legal defects with how the case is charged.

In the group’s motion to dismiss the charges on Tuesday, its lawyers noted that investigators from the FBI and IRS probed the organization and interviewed several people sometime between 2019 and 2020, but never sought criminal charges.

“Whatever its genesis or focus, the earlier inquiry resulted in no charges being brought,” they wrote.

Then, after the group became a frequent target of the Trump administration’s verbal assaults, the case was re-opened, SPLC’s lawyers noted. In the weeks and months before they informed the group that they were seeking an indictment, prosecutors did not seek any new documents or interview any current employees, the filing said.

“From the start of the second Trump Administration, targeting groups like the SPLC became a priority,” the group’s lawyers wrote.

Progressive nonprofits have been frequent targets of the Trump administration.

Last year, then-Attorney General Pam Bondi directed the FBI to investigate groups that may be suspected of funding acts of domestic terrorism. In her memo, she defined domestic terrorists as those who “use violence or the threat of violence to advance political and social agendas, including opposition to law and immigration enforcement; extreme views in favor of mass migration and open borders; adherence to radical gender ideology, anti-Americanism, anti-capitalism, or anti-Christianity.”

Her directive was spawned by an executive order from Mr. Trump in the fall, which ordered the government to designate antifa as a terrorist group.

Since then, a number of high-profile Trump administration officials, including FBI Director Kash Patel and Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon, have publicly attacked the SPLC, the motion said.

“The quintessential forms of direct evidence of genuine animus are statements from prosecutors and Executive Branch officials expressing improper motivations for bringing charges,” its lawyers said in the filing.

WASHINGTON, May 26 (Reuters) – The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday proposed fining Alaska Airlines $165,000 for ‌allegedly allowing intoxicated passengers to board numerous flights.

The alleged incidents occurred on 11 flights between February 2024 and February 2025, the FAA said, adding that agency regulations prohibit airlines from allowing anyone who appears to be intoxicated to board an aircraft.

Alaska said it participated fully with an FAA audit of its policies relating to intoxicated guests on board aircraft and said it takes the issue seriously.

“Since the FAA shared these concerns with us over a year ago, we made meaningful changes to ensure compliance with the FAA’s expectations – ‌including enhanced training for all flight attendants and customer service agents,” Alaska said Tuesday. “We respect the results of the FAA’s audit and are confident in the changes that have been in place for the last year to ensure our shared standards are being met.”

Last month, the FAA said it was proposing to fine Southwest Airlines $304,000 and American Airlines $255,000, alleging the carriers violated employee drug- and alcohol-testing regulations by failing to conduct required follow-up drug or alcohol testing for employees, including pilots, flight attendants, and aircraft mechanics.

The suspect, identified only as Isai “N,” was arrested in the northern border state of Sonora and is sought by U.S. authorities, top security official Omar Garcia Harfuch said on X.

Harfuch also said 687 kilos of cocaine, 151 guns and 18 grenades were seized at a separate location.

“These actions reflect the permanent coordination of the Mexican State to apprehend priority targets and weaken the operational capabilities of criminal groups,” he wrote on X.

Extradited in 2017 after escaping twice from Mexican prisons, El Chapo is serving a life sentence at a maximum security facility in Colorado on multiple charges including drug trafficking and money laundering.

Earlier this month, court records revealed that El Chapo pleaded for U.S. court authorities to transfer him back to his country of birth, citing his “cruel punishment.”

The co-founder of the infamous Sinaloa cartel has repeatedly complained in previous prison letters of isolation, poor conditions in his cell and the lack of family visits. In 2023, he appealed to then President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador for help due to alleged”psychological torment”that he said he was enduring in prison.

El Chapo is incarcerated at the”Supermax” prisonin Florence, Colorado, which has held a number of high-profile inmates, including Unabomber Ted Kaczynski, Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Sept. 11 conspirator Zacarias Moussaoui and Oklahoma City bombing accomplice Terry Nichols. The facility is so secure, so remote and so austere that it has been called the “Alcatraz of the Rockies.”

El Chapo’s associates have unleashed a war over control of the Sinaloa cartel against factions tied to Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, the co-founder of the group who is also awaiting trial in the United States.

Last month, Mexican soldiers captured three of El Chapo’s brother’s closest allies in an operation backed by U.S. intelligence. His brother, Aureliano Guzman Loera, known as “El Guano,” still has a$5 million U.S. bounty on his head

US Justice Department sues UCLA alleging antisemitic educational environment

    2026-05-26T18:47:19.253Z / Reuters

WASHINGTON, May 26 (Reuters) – The U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division filed a lawsuit against the University of California Los Angeles on Tuesday, alleging it tolerated ‌a hostile educational environment for Jewish and Israeli students.

In its complaint, the Justice Department accused UCLA of violating Title VI – a federal law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin in any program or activity receiving federal financial assistance – “through its deliberate indifference to this pervasive on-campus antisemitism.”

The Reuters Iran Briefing newsletter keeps you informed with the latest developments and analysis of the Iran war. Sign up here.

The lawsuit pointed to an encampment that was built on the university’s campus in April 2024. The Justice Department described the move as illegal and alleged that Jewish students were attacked.

“Universities have an obligation to maintain safe and inclusive campuses for all students,” said Bill Essayli, the first assistant U.S. attorney for the Central District of California.

“Universities that violate our nation’s civil rights laws by repeatedly failing to shield Jewish students from antisemitism will be held accountable.”

UCLA did not immediately respond when reached for comment.

The Justice Department ‌announced the lawsuit shortly after a federal appeals court earlier on Tuesday partially upheld an injunction that required it to restore grants awarded to the University of California that the Trump administration had terminated last year because it perceived they supported diversity, equity and inclusion, or DEI.

The lawsuit is the latest legal action taken by the Trump administration to crackdown on what it has described as antisemitism at U.S. universities in the wake of Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attacks on Israel.

The 2023 attack, which resulted in the deaths of more than 1,200 people, launched the Israel-Gaza war. Over 75,000 people have died in the war.

Hundreds of students across the U.S. and Europe held demonstrations in wake of the war, calling for a ceasefire to end the war. In some cases, students occupied campus buildings.

    https://www.foxnews.com/video/6395824106112

Ousted Senate Republican digs in against Trump, takes jab at leadership style

    May 26, 2026 2:30pm EDT / Fox News

Senator Bill Cassidy said leaders should be ‘steady, not erratic’ in an apparent jab at the president

    By Alex Miller, Fox News

Fox News senior correspondent Jonathan Serrie reports on the primary defeat of Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., whose loss signals President Donald Trump’s strong grip on the GOP following the senator’s 2021 impeachment vote.

A Senate Republican ousted by President Donald Trump took a veiled shot at the president and is poised to become a foil to his agenda during Cassidy’s waning time in office.

Trump may have vanquished Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., from the upper chamber when he endorsed Rep. Julia Letlow, R-La., in his primary race, but the lawmaker is not going quietly into the sunset of his political career in Congress.

Since the dust settled on Cassidy’s primary race, which is now headed to a runoff between Letlow and Louisiana state Treasurer John Fleming, the lawmaker has already dug his heels in against some of Trump’s key policy and spending desires.

RETIRING SENATOR WARNS IF TRUMP CONTINUES TO DO ‘STUPID THINGS’ IT WILL KILL GOP IN NOVEMBER

In a lengthy post on X, Cassidy wrote of America’s future and called for unity. And though he did not explicitly name Trump, his viewpoint on leadership appeared to take a jab at the president.

“At its best, America has renewed itself through leaders who understood that public office is a responsibility, not a performance,” Cassidy said. “The American people do not expect perfection from their leaders, but they do expect seriousness.”

“Leaders who are steady, not erratic. Thoughtful, not impulsive,” he continued. “Their words should lower the temperature rather than inflame division. Their actions should place the long-term interests of the country above short-term political or personal gain.”

SENATE GOP ERUPTS OVER TRUMP DOJ ‘ANTI-WEAPONIZATION’ FUND, PUNTS ICE, BORDER PATROL FUNDING

    https://www.foxnews.com/video/6395824106112

Those messages came after Cassidy publicly broke with Trump on both the Iran war and the surprise nearly $2 billion “anti-weaponization” fund announced by the Department of Justice earlier last week.

When asked about the post, Cassidy told Fox News Digital in a statement, “If trust is destroyed, whether in marriage, business, or politics, it’s harder to get things done.”

“It is an observation of life,” he said. “Conversely, if you want to get things done, build trust.”

It all comes after Trump made Cassidy one of his targets in his so-called revenge tour.

Cassidy, along with a handful of other Republicans, voted to convict him during the last impeachment proceedings following the Jan. 6, 2021, riot on Capitol Hill. And he doesn’t regret that vote, telling reporters last week shortly after his loss that he “voted to uphold the Constitution.”

SENATE DEMOCRATS FINALLY CRACK GOP UNITY ON TRUMP’S IRAN WAR AS MURKOWSKI FLIPS

“It may have cost me my seat, but who cares? I had the privilege of voting to uphold the Constitution,” Cassidy said. “Isn’t that a great thing?”

The White House, when asked for comment Tuesday on Cassidy’s apparent barb toward the president, told Fox News Digital to review the slew of Trump’s Truth Social posts about the lawmaker.

Trump celebrated Cassidy’s loss in his primary, and painted the lawmaker as being disloyal because of his impeachment vote.

“Bill Cassidy, after falsely using his ‘relationship’ with me during his political career, and winning Elections because of it, voted to impeach me on preposterous charges that were fake then, and now, are criminally insane,” Trump said. “His disloyalty to the man who got him elected is now a part of legend, and it’s nice to see that his political career is OVER!”

Shortly after, Cassidy bucked Trump on the Senate floor, joining nearly every Senate Democrat to handcuff the president’s war powers in Iran. He provided the pivotal vote to advance the resolution, which is expected to fail when brought to the floor once more.

And he, like several other Republicans, is outright rejecting the “anti-weaponization” fund, which, after a tense, closed-door meeting last week, has temporarily derailed the GOP’s push to fund immigration enforcement for the remainder of Trump’s term.

Cassidy, like several of his colleagues, wanted Congress to have a say on the fund.

“People are concerned about making their own ends meet, not about putting a slush fund together without a legal precedent,” Cassidy said. “We’re a nation of laws. If there needs to be a settlement, let’s consider it, and Congress should come together and decide on that.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the White House for comment.

WASHINGTON, May 26 (Reuters) – The National Transportation Safety Board on Tuesday called on ‌the Federal Aviation Administration to revise how it assesses runway conditions during heavy rainfall, citing safety risks of airplanes skidding off the runway.

The recommendations follow NTSB investigations of 11 runway overrun accidents and incidents from 2008 through 2022 that occurred after landings ‌on wet runways.

The board cited the 2019 runway overrun of a Boeing 737 BA.N in Jacksonville, Florida due in part to “an extreme loss of braking friction due to heavy rain and the water depth on the ungrooved runway, which resulted in viscous hydroplaning.”
