U.S. attorney in Miami targeting Cuban Communist leaders with new initiative, sources say

    March 6, 2026 / 5:59 PM EST / CBS News

The top federal prosecutor in Miami is spearheading a new initiative targeting Cuban leaders for prosecution, sources familiar with the plan tell CBS News.

Jason Reding Quiñones, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida, is working with officials from federal and local law enforcement agencies and the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, or OFAC, to establish a new Cuban prosecution working group, the sources said. OFAC is the office responsible for imposing sanctions.

The group plans to focus on prosecutions involving economic crimes, drugs, violent crimes and immigration-related violations, with a focus on targeting those in the Communist Party leadership, the sources added.

A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney’s Office could not be immediately reached for comment. The plans for the new working group were reported earlier by the Washington Post.

President Trump has indicated he’s been eyeing Cuba’s leaders, after the U.S. ousted Venezuelan President Nicolàs Maduro and brought him to the United States to face drug charges in January, and recently launched a joint war with Israel against Iran last week that killed Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

The president told CNN in an interview on Friday that Cuba’s communist government was likely to be toppled next.

“Cuba is gonna fall pretty soon,” Mr. Trump said, according to CNN.

Quiñones and First Assistant U.S. Attorney Yara Klukas are the same prosecutors who are separately leading an investigation into former Obama-era intelligence officials, including former CIA Director John Brennan, over an intelligence assessment that determined that Russia had tried to interfere in the 2016 presidential election to help benefit Mr. Trump.

Late last year, Quiñones’ office sent subpoenas to former government officials requesting a broad swath of records, including paper or digital documents, text messages and emails associated with the preparation of the intelligence community’s January 2017 assessment.

In recent weeks, updated subpoenas that expanded the date range for the documents were issued in the matter.

Tylenol use among women dropped after Trump tied it to autism

March 6 (Reuters) – Tylenol use among pregnant women fell after U.S. President Donald Trump linked autism to the over-the-counter pain relief medicine, according to an analysis of U.S. emergency room prescribing patterns published in the UK medical journal Lancet.

In September, Trump said pregnant women should avoid using Tylenol, the brand name for the product known as acetaminophen or ‌paracetamol owned by Kenvue (KVUE.N), opens new tab. Health officials cited research claiming prenatal Tylenol use is linked with neurodevelopmental disorders to back up his statement.

The decrease in Tylenol prescribing appeared to wane after several weeks, possibly in response to messaging from trusted organizations refuting the President’s claims, the researchers said.

The study led by Dr. Jeremy Faust, a Harvard professor, also found a persistent increase in the use of leucovorin, a form of folinic acid that Trump also touted as a treatment for children with autism during the same press conference.

Drug regulators said they would approve the drug based on a U.S. Food and Drug Administration review of patient data.

THOUSANDS OF WOMEN WENT WITHOUT TYLENOL

The study compared the number of Tylenol prescriptions given to pregnant patients in emergency departments in the three months before and after Trump’s announcement on September 22.

    Advertisement · Scroll to continue

Overall, Tylenol prescriptions fell 10%. Orders of Tylenol for pregnant women aged 15–44 years dipped 16% at the start of the three-month study, and the biggest weekly decline of 20% happened in the third week.

“This means that thousands of women did not have their pain or fever treated in ERs, likely because they were needlessly afraid,” said study author Jeremy Faust, an emergency physician at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

“We think that’s unfortunate because, among the options for pain control and ‌fever reduction, Tylenol is the safest option,” said Faust.

There was no statistically significant change in orders among women who were not pregnant, his analysis found.

For the three months after the President’s warning, the researchers had electronic health record data on nearly 90,000 emergency department visits by pregnant females, about 853,000 emergency visits by non-pregnant females, and 8.6 million outpatient clinical encounters among children.

The study found that outpatient leucovorin prescriptions for children aged 5–17 years also rose by 71% during this time period. There was a 93% increase at the start of the study, and the biggest jump happened in the second week, when the prescription rate more than doubled.

While prescriptions fell from the peak, they were still sharply higher at the end of the study period.

“In a time in which public trust in health, medicine, and science is under attack, it’s regrettable that so many families will have been misled into thinking that this medication could somehow miraculously change the lives of children with autism,” Faust added.

When asked about the study on Friday, Andrew Nixon, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, responded by sending his post on X in which he defended the government’s message on Tylenol, saying it was part of its “commitment to telling the truth about public health.”

Iran proxies wage war on Israel, threaten US interests as Iraq slammed for not disarming them

Multiple unmanned aerial vehicles launched since Saturday conflict as Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces expand targets

    By Benjamin Weinthal
    Fox News

    Published March 6, 2026 12:25pm EST

FIRST ON FOX: The Israeli military spokesman confirmed to Fox News Digital this week that multiple unmanned aerial vehicles, UAVs, have been launched into Israel from Iraqi territory since the start of the conflict with Iran to eradicate the Islamic Republic of Iran’s illicit nuclear weapons facilities, missile systems and terrorism infrastructure.

Lt. Col. Nadav Shoshani, the Israeli military spokesman, said that the army has had a “near complete success” rate in stopping Iranian drones from hitting Israeli targets.

The drones fired from Iraq are presumed to come from the Iranian regime-controlled Popular Mobilization Forces, or PMF. An umbrella organization of Shiite terrorists, that attacked Israel with drones in 2024 during Israel’s war against the Tehran-backed Hamas movement.

An Iraqi Kurdish official told Fox News Digital, “Iraq has become a vessel for the Iranians. Is it so hard to see? I don’t see a distinction between the PMF and the state. They’re paid by the state, hold sovereign portfolios in this cabinet, go on foreign travel and now they’ve entered the federal legislature.”

The official continued: “In the last two decades, Iran has systemically taken over the state, weaponizing what were supposed to be institutions into tools to protect the Shia regime in Baghdad and punish any threat to it, including the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG). Through Baghdad and state institutions, it has economically strangled the Kurdistan Region, torn strips from our autonomy and exposed us to more attacks.”

An attack was reported on the country’s shrinking Christian community. The Chaldean Archbishop Bashar Warda of Erbil, Iraq, from the capital city of Iraqi Kurdistan, wrote on X on Thursday: “A miracle no one was injured when 2 drones struck our community, 150 meters from our Catechist Center that serves 1,000 Catholic children. Our university & schools are also closed so the young can be with their parents. Please pray for us & for all who suffer in this war.”

Kurdistan Regional Government authorities confirmed the attack and said it was carried out by two drones.

ISRAEL POUNDS HEZBOLLAH TARGETS, DARING LEBANON TO RECLAIM SOVEREIGNTY FROM IRAN-BACKED TERROR PROXY

Phillip Smyth, an expert on Shiite militias in Iraq, told Fox News Digital about the strikes on the Chaldean Catholic school that “Kata’ib Hezbollah was first to talk about it and it was likely Kata’ib Hezbollah, but it is possible it was another two pro-Iran militias because they all work together on drone launches.”

A drone attack struck an oil field operated by U.S. firm HKN Energy in Iraq’s Kurdistan region on Thursday, causing a fire ‌and halting production, according to a Reuters report citing security sources and an oilfield engineer.

No group claimed responsibility, but Kurdish officials accused Iran-allied Iraqi militias of carrying out the attack.

If so, the attack would mean Iran‑aligned Iraqi militias, who have vowed to retaliate for the killing ‌of Iran’s supreme leader, have expanded targets from U.S. military bases in Iraqi Kurdistan to U.S. energy interests.

A mourner holds a portrait of Iran’s slain supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei (top-L) on March 5, 2026, during a funeral procession for members of Iraq’s pro-Iran paramilitary group Hezbollah Brigades (Kataeb Hezbollah) who were killed in a strike in Baghdad the previous day. Production at the field was halted as a precaution after an explosion at its power unit, the engineer told Reuters.

Some energy companies operating in Iraqi Kurdistan shut oil and gas production at their fields as a precaution after the U.S. and Israel launched strikes on neighboring Iran.

Entifadh Qanbar, a former spokesman for the deputy prime minister of Iraq, echoed the comments of the Iraqi Kurdish official in his statement to Fox News Digital: “The Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) are fully funded by the Iraqi government. In fact, they are formally included as a line item in Iraq’s federal budget. Officially, more than $3 billion is allocated annually just for salaries, but when logistics, weapons, food, and other operational costs are included, the PMF’s budget likely exceeds $10 billion. That is the size of the budget of a small country in the Middle East,” he claimed.

IRAQI STATE BANK ACCUSED OF PROCESSING PAYMENTS FOR HOUTHI TERRORISTS WHO DISRUPT RED SEA COMMERCE

Qanbar said there is a way to change Iraq’s behavior: “If the United States wants to stop this situation, there are clear tools available. Sanctions must be imposed on the Iraqi government for funding these militias. Another powerful mechanism involves Iraq’s oil revenues, which are deposited at the U.S. Federal Reserve. The United States could suspend transfers of those funds unless Baghdad halts the financing of the PMF. Make no mistake: every terrorist who launches drones or rockets against Kurdistan, U.S. interests, Gulf states or military bases is effectively being paid by the Iraqi government,” he claimed.

When asked if the Islamic Republic of Iran urged Shiite militias from the PMF to fire drones at Israel, a spokesman for Iran’s U.N. mission said, “The Mission declined to comment.”

On Tuesday, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said his government is “not tolerating any attempt aimed at dragging Iraq into war or threatening the country’s stability,” according to Kurdistan24.

Salwan Sinjari, chief of staff to the Iraqi foreign minister, referred Fox News Digital to the Iraqi foreign ministry page for official statements by his minister and the government. He did not respond to follow-up messages and calls on whether Iraq’s government was failing to crack down on the PMF.

Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein claimed the government was seeking to convince Iran-backed militias to disarm in January 2025, according to the Long War Journal.

However, Iraq’s government has issued mixed messages about the PMF over the years. In May 2025 al-Sudani was quoted as saying, “Today, the Popular Mobilization Forces constitute a basic force in defending Iraq.”

Iraq’s ambassador to the U.S. did not immediately respond to email, WhatsApp and telephone queries. A second Iraqi diplomat said he was unable to provide Fox News Digital a comment.

The Times of Israel reported on Thursday, after military strikes eliminated a senior officer from Kataeb Hezbollah— Iraq’s largest pro-Iran militia— south of Baghdad that PMF militias pledged to strike the Middle East interests of European nations that joined in the “Zionist-American” strikes on the Islamic Republic and its proxies.

Marine veteran vows to stay in North Carolina’s US Senate race after violent Capitol arrest

Brian McGinnis faces assault charges after protesting US military strikes against Iran at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing

A Marine veteran and Green Party Senate candidate has vowed to continue his congressional campaign after he was forcibly thrown out of a Senate hearing this week by police.

Sen. Tim Sheehy, R-Mont., assisted law enforcement in throwing Brian McGinnis out of the hearing after an outburst.

McGinnis, who is running for a U.S. Senate in North Carolina, was protesting U.S. military strikes against Iran when he was escorted out of Wednesday’s hearing. He is running to replace outgoing Republican Sen. Tom Tillis.

“And for the record, I’ve been running long before this, and yes, even after breaking my arm standing up for what I believe in,” McGinnis wrote on X. “It’s only made me more determined. Anger is real, and so is resolve. Take care.”

McGinnis is among five candidates in the race, which includes former Democratic North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper and Michael Whatley, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, both of whom won their respective primaries Tuesday.

A video of McGinnis being forcibly thrown out of the hearing in the Hart Senate Office Building went viral. The footage shows U.S. Capitol Police grabbing the military veteran as he shouted “No one wants to fight for Israel” while being pushed out of the Senate Armed Services Committee hearing room.

McGinnis, 44, who was dressed in a Marine Corps dress blue uniform, got his arm stuck in a door in an effort to resist being kicked out of the room, authorities said.

At one point, Sheehy, a former Navy SEAL, joined police by grabbing McGinnis’ legs to help carry him out.

“This afternoon, an unruly man who started to illegally protest during a hearing, put everyone in a dangerous position by violently resisting and fighting our officer’s attempts to remove him from the room,” U.S. Capitol Police said in a statement.

“Protests are not allowed inside the congressional buildings. There are plenty of other spots on Capitol grounds, outside, where demonstrations are allowed.”

Three officers were treated for injuries, U.S. Capitol Police said.

McGinnis is facing three counts each of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest and crowding, obstructing and incommoding for the unlawful demonstration, a Capitol police spokesperson said.

In his own statement, Sheehy said officers were attempting to remove an unhinged protester from the room.

“He was fighting back. I decided to help out and de-escalate the situation,” he said. “This gentleman came to the Capitol looking for a confrontation, and he got one. I hope he gets the help he needs without causing further violence.”

    By Ashley Oliver
    Fox News
    Published March 5, 2026 6:39pm EST | Updated March 6, 2026 1:05pm EST

(Mandel Ngan/Getty Images)

Justice Brett Kavanaugh warned refund process would be a ‘mess’ with ‘serious practical consequences’

    By Ashley Oliver
    Fox News
    Published March 5, 2026 6:39pm EST | Updated March 6, 2026 1:05pm EST

The Trump administration told a court on Friday that it needed about six weeks to come up with a system to begin the refund process for President Donald Trump’s tariffs that the Supreme Court recently invalidated.

A U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) official made the revelation in a declaration to the U.S. Court of International Trade, saying the agency could not immediately comply with a federal judge’s order to begin the refund process.

The agency is staring down at least 53 million refunds totaling $166 billion, according to the official, and that it needed the extra time to work out a way to process them. Building an automated system would save roughly four million hours of work, the official said, noting the ‘unprecedented magnitude’ of the refund process.

CBP’s ‘existing administrative procedures and technology are not well suited to a task of this scale,’ which currently would ‘prevent personnel from fully carrying out the agency’s trade enforcement mission,’ the official wrote. He said he was ‘confident’ the agency could come up with a more streamlined process in the coming weeks.

President Donald Trump shows off non-reciprocal tariff examples.(Mandel Ngan/Getty Images)

The declaration comes after Judge Richard Eaton, an appointee of former President Bill Clinton, laid out the multibillion-dollar refund process in a three-page order, saying it would begin with CBP calculating what importers would have paid without the tariffs. Eaton also made clear he had sole jurisdiction over the refunds, which more than 1,000 companies have sued over in the trade court.

‘The Chief Judge has indicated that I am the only judge who will hear cases pertaining to the refund of [International Emergency Economic Powers Act] duties,’ Eaton wrote. ‘So there is no danger that another Judge, even one in this Court, will reach any contrary conclusions.’

The case in question was brought by Atmus Filtration, Inc., a company that paid President Donald Trump’s tariffs, which Trump imposed on nearly every country on an emergency basis under IEEPA last year.

The IEEPA is a 1977 law that allows the president – after declaring a national emergency in response to foreign threats – to regulate or block certain economic transactions, such as by imposing sanctions.

The Supreme Court decided 6-3 in February to block Trump’s use of the emergency law to impose sweeping tariffs on trading partners. The majority held that IEEPA does not authorize tariffs, even after a national emergency declaration, because Congress did not clearly grant the executive branch that power.

All importers who paid those duties were entitled to benefit from the Supreme Court’s ruling, Eaton said.

Eaton said CBP should calculate the affected imports as if the tariffs had never applied, which the judge signaled would eventually pave the way for refunds to the companies.

TRUMP RESPONDS TO SUPREME COURT RULING REJECTING SWEEPING TARIFFS POWERS: ‘A DISGRACE’

The Supreme Court majority left the refund process unaddressed in its decision, leaving it to the lower courts to mete out. Justice Brett Kavanaugh, however, questioned in his dissent how the U.S. Treasury could go about refunding companies to the tune of billions of dollars, warning of ‘serious practical consequences.’

‘The United States may be required to refund billions of dollars to importers who paid the IEEPA tariffs, even though some importers may have already passed on costs to consumers or others,’ Kavanaugh wrote. ‘As was acknowledged at oral argument, the refund process is likely to be a ‘mess.’’

Eaton disputed that notion during a hearing just prior to issuing his order.

‘There is nothing particularly novel about the provision of refunds. … I believe that there will be no chaos associated with the provision of these refunds and that it will not result in a mess,’ Eaton said, according to Politico.

Eaton is set to preside over a closed-door conference with the parties in the case on Friday to further discuss the refund process.

J. Scott Applewhite/AP Photo)

Al Drago/Bloomberg via Getty Images)

Democrats pressure Mike Johnson to keep House in Washington over ‘rapidly developing’ Iran operation

The letter led by Rep. Jared Moskowitz says, ‘We believe it is in the best interest of our constituents if we remain in session’

    By Elizabeth Elkind
    Fox News

    Published March 6, 2026 1:00pm EST

FIRST ON FOX: A group of Democrats is demanding that Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., keep the House of Representatives in Washington, D.C., next week in light of the ‘rapidly evolving’ situation in Iran.

‘The attacks have resulted in heightened threat assessments around the globe as well as multiple deaths, including the tragic loss of six U.S. service members. At this sensitive time, we believe it is in the best interest of our constituents if we remain in session as events continue to develop,’ they wrote to the chamber’s leader on Friday.

The letter is being led by Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., and nine other members of the House Democratic Caucus, and comes nearly a week after the U.S. and Israel first launched strikes targeting Iran’s senior leadership and military assets.

They’re calling on Johnson to not only keep the House in session but encourage meetings of the committees relevant to U.S. national security in light of the heightened threat environment.

‘By the President’s own admission, current military operations against Iran could be sustained for weeks. The rapid developments of such an operation, and its potential impact here at home, require a firm commitment to legislative engagement,’ the Democrats wrote.

‘If the House of Representatives is absent during such a pivotal moment in our foreign policy, we will be failing our constituents. We urge you to cancel next week’s recess so that we may fulfill our oversight duty.’

Democrats and Republicans’ responses to the operation have largely fallen across party lines.

HOUSE VOTES TO LET TRUMP’S OPERATION EPIC FURY CONTINUE IN IRAN

Democrats have accused the administration of plunging the U.S. into another Middle East conflict without a clear ending while running roughshod over Congress’ constitutional authority. Republicans, meanwhile, maintain that the White House is acting within its authority in the best interests of the country.

Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., speaks to members of the media, following a vote at the US Capitol in Washington, D.C., June 23, 2025.(Al Drago/Bloomberg via Getty Images)

The House is out all next week as Republican lawmakers head to President Donald Trump’s Doral golf club in Florida for their annual member retreat, where they will continue to monitor developments in Washington while discussing policy for the remainder of this year.

Democrats had their own annual retreat in late February.

TRUMP SAYS ‘LOSERS’ SCHUMER, DEMS WOULD HAVE CRITICIZED ANY DECISION HE MADE ON IRAN

But as Democrats hammer Johnson for leaving D.C., Republicans are accusing them of playing politics with the national security situation themselves.

House GOP leaders held a vote on funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) using a bipartisan bill that Democrats had already walked away from weeks ago, arguing it did not do enough to rein in Trump’s immigration crackdown.

Republicans argued that the ongoing situation with Iran is worsening the effects of the ongoing DHS shutdown, which began after Democrats shunned the initial bipartisan deal.

All but four House Democrats voted against the bill on Thursday.

‘They do not want to fund the agencies whose job it is to keep Americans safe at this time of this heightened threat environment that we’re all living in,’ Johnson said after the vote. ‘We’re concerned about sleeper cells in the country. We’re concerned about the safety of every American. And the Democrats are playing politics here.’

A House GOP leadership aide told Fox News Digital in response to Moskowitz’s letter, ‘Bipartisan majorities in both chambers of Congress just voted to support President Trump and Operation Epic Fury because they know the Iranian regime is a real threat to American security and Middle East stability. By contrast, most House Democrats, including Rep. Moskowitz, voted to keep the Department of Homeland Security closed in order to protect the criminal illegal immigrants they allowed into our country.’

US customs agency says tariff refund system will be ready in 45 days

    March 6, 2026 4:33 PM UTC / Reuters

    • CBP collected $166 billion in illegal tariffs from 330,000 importers
    • CBP is preparing a refund system that will not require importers to sue
    • CBP’s existing system unsuitable for large-scale refund task, requires manual work

March 6 (Reuters) – The U.S. customs agency is readying a system within 45 days to process refunds on U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs that were struck down ‌as illegal, a customs official said in a court filing on Friday.

The declaration by Customs and Border Protection official Brandon Lord came as government lawyers met with a federal trade judge to try to hammer out a broad settlement process, as Reuters reported exclusively, for returning $166 billion in tariff payments to around 330,000 importers.

The tariffs that were a central part of President Donald Trump’s economic policy were struck down as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court last month. However, the Supreme Court did not say how the collected tariffs should be refunded, leaving small importers worried the process would be expensive and time-consuming.

“This new process will require minimal submission from importers,” Lord said in his declaration, which was filed with the U.S. Court of International Trade just as government lawyers began meeting with Judge Richard Eaton from the court.

Eaton called the meeting to discuss how the government will carry out his sweeping order issued on Wednesday directing the CBP to begin refunding tariffs to potentially hundreds of thousands of importers using the agency’s existing internal process.

Eaton said in his Wednesday order that he had been appointed by the trade court to hear the roughly 2,000 lawsuits filed by importers including FedEx (FDX.N) and L’Oreal (OREP.PA) seeking refunds. Trade lawyers said those lawsuits were the tip of the iceberg, and thousands more were prepared to sue if the government failed to develop a system for automatic refunds. Affiliates of Nintendo (7974.T) and CVS (CVS.N) became the latest large companies to sue for refunds on Friday.

    SINGLE PAYMENT FOR IMPORTERS

Lord said in the court filing that the customs agency expected importers to file a declaration with the CBP’s computer ‌system known as ACE detailing tariff payments, which would then be validated before refunds are processed with interest. The importers would not have to sue.

Each importer would receive a single payment from the Treasury Department, regardless of how many separate entries of goods the importer had made.

Lord did not estimate how long it would take to process the refunds, but said the CBP would not be able to comply with Eaton’s order from Wednesday. Eaton contemplated refunds would be automatically returned to importers through the existing system without documentation or input from the importer.

“Its existing administrative procedures and technology are not well-suited to a task of this scale and will require manual work that will prevent personnel from fully carrying out the agency’s trade enforcement mission,” Lord said in explaining why the agency could not use its existing system.

He said importers had paid an estimated $166 billion in tariffs on more than 53 million shipments. Eaton’s order would have required the agency to manually review paperwork on every shipment, a process Lord said would require more than 4 million hours of labor.

However, Lord’s declaration also indicated that few importers had signed up for the CBP’s electronic system for refunds. Out of more than 330,000 importers who paid the illegal duties, only 21,423 signed up for the electronic refund system that went into place on February 6, according to Lord.

Eaton is overseeing a refund lawsuit by Atmus Filtration Inc, which the judge is using as a vehicle to order CBP to issue the refunds for all importers.

Jen Kwon

North Korea portrays dictator Kim Jong Un as a warrior, but also a puppy-loving family man

    March 6, 2026 / 12:15 PM EST / CBS News – By Jen Kwon

Seoul — As the U.S. engages Iran in a deadly and fast-spreading war, unusually candid images emerged of another major American adversary looking preoccupied with decidedly more domestic matters. North Korea has offered a rare glimpse of dictator Kim Jong Un as a family man and pet lover.

North Korean state media broadcast images Thursday of Kim inspecting the naval destroyer Choe Hyon and its weapons systems, saying he intended to build “the strongest navy” in the country’s history.

It may have been a bid to project strength in the wake of the U.S. strikes killing Iran’s long-time supreme leader and, before that, the capture of Venezuela’s former President Nicolas Maduro in the country’s capital.

But separately, video surfaced with little fanfare from the regime in Pyongyang showing Kim spending a seemingly relaxed afternoon with his daughter Ju Ae, sister Yo Jung, and wife Ri Sul Ju, enjoying the company of some puppies.

Ju Ae is often described by North Korea’s state media as his “beloved child,” and South Korea’s National Intelligence Service has assessed that she’s likely been chosen to succeed her father, continuing the Kim family’s ruling dynasty.

South Korean analysts believe the video, shared on Feb. 17 by an Instagram account identified as a North Korean “government official,” featuring images of a young woman in military attire, was likely first broadcast internally, rather than distributed widely through the international channels closely monitored by foreign media.

A collection of photos shared by North Korean state media also indicate the video was shot in a pet shop within a new complex during a visit by the Kims on or around Feb. 17. They include images of Kim and his daughter also touring what appears to be a musical instrument store at the site.

In the video and the photos, Kim and his daughter, 13, are seen in coordinating black coats visiting new facilities in Pyongyang described by state media as part of a “fourth-stage construction project” to provide welfare and sports services for residents.

Ju Ae is seen admiring a few dogs, including a traditional Korean Pungsan. At one point her mother, Ri Sol Ju, appears to gently scold her for some transgression as Kim watches with a broad smile. His sister Kim Yo Jong can be seen nearby, also smiling as the moment unfolds.

In several scenes, Kim interacts playfully with the dogs. Rather than the stern commander often depicted inspecting missiles or military parades, and railing against the U.S., he appears relaxed, attentive and openly affectionate toward his daughter.

Keen observers noted a small but potentially symbolic detail in the video: Kim is seen passing by a Shiba Inu, a Japanese breed, without interest, before fawning over a Shih Tzu, a breed with origins in the royal palaces of China — possibly hinting at diplomatic relations between the three countries.
