House blocks Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s war powers resolution on Lebanon

    June 4, 2026 / 4:46 PM EDT / CBS News

Washington — The House rejected a war powers resolution on Thursday to constrain President Trump in Lebanon after Democratic leaders came out against it.

The resolution, introduced by Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, directs the president to remove U.S. armed forces “from Lebanon” within seven days of the measure’s adoption. It failed in a 92 to 324 vote, with two voting present.

“Currently, there are no U.S. servicemembers involved in combat operations or hostilities in Lebanon,” House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar said in a statement before the vote.

Democratic leaders said another war powers resolution introduced Wednesday by Tlaib with updated language was “the best legislative vehicle to keep U.S. troops out of Lebanon” and they would work with her to “build consensus” on it. They noted the new version had the support of Rep. Gregory Meeks of New York, the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee who has led the push in the lower chamber to rein in Mr. Trump’s ability to wage war without congressional authorization.

The new version directs the president to remove U.S. armed forces “from any hostilities in Lebanon” within seven days of the measure’s adoption. It also adds, “Nothing in this concurrent resolution may be construed to prevent or limit security cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces or the protection of diplomatic facilities.”

Tlaib forced the vote after weeks of deadly fighting between Israel and the Iranian-backed militant group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon. A U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon was announced Wednesday as the fighting threatened broader negotiations to end the U.S. war with Iran. But the deal is contingent on Hezbollah ending attacks and leaving part of southern Lebanon.

“We must end the participation in the Israeli government’s violent assault on Lebanon,” Tlaib said on the House floor Wednesday night, calling the U.S. an “active participant” in Israel’s “ethnic cleansing campaign” and “war crimes.”

“The Trump administration is providing intelligence, coordinating strikes and demonstrating overt command over Israeli decisions,” she said.

Republican Rep. Brian Mast of Florida, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, argued that Tlaib was asking to remove U.S. forces “from a country where we are not in conflict.”

Floor debate on the resolution came to a standstill when Republican Rep. Max Miller of Ohio accused Tlaib of supporting terrorists.

“Hezbollah is a terrorist organization … and its members are butchers that you like to hang out with to a certain extent,” Miller said.

Tlaib yelled across the chamber at Miller and demanded that his words be stricken from the Congressional Record, and they ultimately were. But not before Miller told Tlaib, “You advocate for terrorists on a daily basis.”

“That is an attack on my character,” Tlaib said.

The failed vote follows the passage of a war powers resolution on Wednesday to limit Mr. Trump from taking further military action against Iran without congressional approval. It was the first time the House has approved such a measure as the conflict loses support among Republicans.

Democratic leaders added in their statement that they “stand with the Lebanese people, the government of Lebanon and the Lebanese Armed Forces in their efforts to live peacefully and defeat Hezbollah, a violent terrorist organization that is a sworn enemy of the United States.”

“As demonstrated yesterday, House Democrats are committed to ending Donald Trump’s reckless and costly war of choice in Iran,” they said. “We also do not support any effort by the Trump administration to entangle the United States in a war in Lebanon or other parts of the Middle East.”

Trump says he will not nominate Pulte to be permanent intelligence chief

    2026-06-04 8:11 PM UTC / Reuters

WASHINGTON, June 4 (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday indicated that he will not nominate mortgage regulator Bill Pulte to be the nation’s intelligence chief once his temporary appointment expires early next year.

His comments follow a backlash against Pulte’s ‌appointment as acting director of national intelligence from Democrats and some key senators of his Republican Party over the Trump loyalist’s lack of national security experience.

The Reuters Iran Briefing newsletter keeps you informed with the latest developments and analysis of the Iran war. Sign up here.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump indicated he would not nominate Pulte to serve permanently as the overseer of the 18-agency U.S. intelligence community.

That would require Senate confirmation, something that Republican leaders have suggested would be difficult for Pulte to win. The law that created the position requires that nominees possess extensive national security experience.

“I don’t think he would want to be permanent, but he is a very smart guy, and he may find out some things about the rigged elections,” Trump said, apparently referring to his discredited claim about the 2020 vote that he lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

“It’s short-term, but he may be very effective for a short period of time,” Trump said.

Some lawmakers have expressed concerns that Pulte, who has pushed for mortgage fraud probes of Trump’s perceived foes, could ‌do the same thing using the access he will have to top-secret information as acting director of national intelligence.

None of those targeted by Pulte have been criminally charged.

Trump on Tuesday tapped Pulte to take over as interim director of national intelligence when Tulsi Gabbard leaves the post on June 30. He would be limited to serving 210 days.

Gabbard has been involved in White House-directed efforts to find evidence proving Trump’s unproven allegation that he lost the 2020 election due to foreign hacking of electronic voting machines.

Pulte’s appointment has jeopardized Democratic votes that Republicans need to reauthorize a key foreign communications monitoring authority — Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act — before it expires on June 12.

While he backs renewal of the authority, Mark Warner, the senior Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, has warned it will be difficult to find Democrats to support renewal of the authority unless Trump withdraws Pulte’s appointment.

    2026-06-04T21:58:12.996Z / https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/04/politics/trump-fda-ned-sharpless-maha-rfk

Trump admin vetting critic of RFK vaccine policies for FDA chief, sources say

    2026-06-04T21:58:12.996Z / https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/04/politics/trump-fda-ned-sharpless-maha-rfk

    • The Trump administration is considering Dr. Norman Sharpless, an oncologist who served as a health official in Trump’s first term, to lead the FDA.
    • Sharpless has opposed changes to vaccine safety regulations championed by Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the Health and Human Services secretary and a proponent of the Make American Healthy Again movement.
    • Sharpless and others being under consideration for FDA head reflect a shift away from the MAHA movement as the White House seeks conventional leaders ahead of midterm elections.

AI-generated summary was reviewed by a CNN editor.

The Trump administration is vetting a first-term health official to lead the Food and Drug Administration who has criticized vaccine policies championed by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Dr. Norman “Ned” Sharpless, who ran the National Cancer Institute during President Donald Trump’s first term, is one of a handful of outside candidates under consideration for the permanent job, four people familiar with the matter said.

Sharpless won broad praise for his work at NCI, which he led for the entirety of the Trump administration and part of the Biden administration before leaving government in 2022.

He also served briefly as Trump’s acting FDA commissioner in 2019 — a seven-month stint that could prove valuable for senior Trump officials trying to stabilize the embattled agency after months of upheaval, the people familiar with the situation said.

That Sharpless is being considered to run the FDA is the latest sign of the administration’s willingness to spurn the “Make America Healthy Again” movement in favor of more conventional leaders it believes can shore up a health department now seen as a political weakness for the GOP.

He has no clear ties to Kennedy or the MAHA movement, which Trump credited with aiding his 2024 presidential win — but that has more recently seen its influence wane as the administration repositions ahead of November’s midterms.

Since leaving government, Sharpless co-founded a venture capital fund that invests in biotechnology companies. He has been a professor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. While there, he signed onto a letter opposing planned changes to some of the FDA’s recent vaccine policies.

“We are deeply concerned by sweeping new FDA assertions about vaccine safety and proposals that would undermine a regulatory model designed to ensure that vaccines are safe, effective, and available when the public needs them most,” Sharpless and a dozen other former FDA leaders wrote last December, calling them “the latest in a series of troubling changes at the FDA.”

The oncologist is one of several candidates that Trump health officials have discussed, and the people familiar with the matter cautioned that the search process is still ongoing. Senior officials had hoped to submit a recommended nominee to Trump in the first half of this month, though that timeline may slip as they continue to sift through candidates.

Sharpless did not respond to a request for comment.

HHS spokesman Andrew Nixon said the administration “is reviewing a large pool of highly qualified candidates interested in serving in key leadership roles across HHS, including the FDA. The focus remains on experienced leaders who can strengthen agency operations, continue advancing significant reforms, and maintain public trust.”

In another indication of MAHA’s loosening grip on personnel decisions, Trump health officials involved in the FDA commissioner search have also eyed longtime pharmaceutical executive Richard Pops, three of the people familiar with the matter said.

Kennedy and the MAHA movement have frequently targeted the industry as a corrupting force within the nation’s health system.

Pops, who is set to step down as CEO of Alkermes, a drug company, later this summer, is a well-regarded figure within the pharmaceutical industry, which clashed frequently with Marty Makary, the recently-ousted FDA commissioner, over the agency’s drug approval process.

Alkermes did not respond to a request for comment.

Several people close to the administration, in meantime, have pressed Trump officials to make acting FDA commissioner Kyle Diamantas the permanent nominee, arguing that this would be the simplest path toward stability at the agency.

Diamantas, the FDA’s top food executive, has impressed officials inside and outside the agency since taking over as acting chief three weeks ago and retains credibility within the MAHA movement for his efforts to advance policies to encourage healthier eating.

But Diamantas has scant experience on drug issues, which could undercut his chances ahead of a midterm where Trump has sought to tout his efforts to lower the cost of medicines, according to some of the people familiar with the search.

The wide-ranging search has taken on a high priority within HHS and parts of the White House, as officials try to plug key vacancies within a department juggling multiple public health threats alongside initiatives viewed as core to Trump’s affordability agenda.

Earlier this year, the White House oversaw a shakeup of Kennedy’s senior leadership team in hopes of improving operations and cutting down on messaging missteps that had frustrated Trump aides and some GOP lawmakers over the last year.

Officials have also encouraged a shift away from Kennedy’s most controversial priorities, downplaying his politically unpopular attempts to overhaul vaccine policies in favor of wider-appeal rhetoric focused on lowering health care costs.

The White House has since chosen more conventional candidates to fill HHS’ top ranks. In April, Trump nominated public health veteran and vaccine supporter Erica Schwartz to run the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The White House then dropped Casey Means, a close Kennedy ally, as surgeon general nominee after it became clear she couldn’t be confirmed. Fox News contributor Dr. Nicole Saphier has been picked instead. Saphier had no prior relationship with Kennedy and a history of criticizing him and some of his policies.

Last month, Makary became the latest top health official to leave the administration, after it became clear he’d lost support within the White House and alienated key factions of the Republican Party and health care industry.

Several Makary allies subsequently stepped down or were fired, creating more high-level vacancies within an agency that had already suffered months of turnover, staffing cuts and infighting over policy decisions.

Senior health officials have since sought to fill those roles quickly, seeking candidates who can command instant credibility with FDA staff and the broader public.

Yet even as they cast a net that extends well beyond the MAHA movement, the people familiar with the search said it could still prove challenging to settle on a pick for FDA commissioner with the attributes needed to win both Kennedy and Trump’s approval — and speed through confirmation in a closely divided Senate where an expanding group of GOP lawmakers have shown a willingness to buck the administration.

Several Republican senators have pressed the FDA to restrict access to the abortion pill mifepristone by reversing a Biden-era change that allowed prescriptions to be sent through the mail. Makary was noncommittal about if or when the FDA would make those changes, fueling criticism from anti-abortion advocates who eventually celebrated his departure.

It could prove a tricky GOP litmus test for whoever succeeds him as well. Sharpless joined six other FDA commissioners and acting chiefs in 2023 to argue that the agency made sound, scientific decisions when easing access to mifepristone.

Diamantas, meanwhile, scrambled shortly after he was named acting commissioner to quell anti-abortion advocates’ concerns about his stance on mifepristone and prior work defending Planned Parenthood in a property dispute.

In a tacit acknowledgement of that difficult path ahead, HHS has taken steps to strengthen ties with GOP senators who might be key to confirming Trump’s new health nominees — including Sen. Bill Cassidy, who chairs the committee responsible for advancing the department’s picks.

Cassidy has been at odds with Kennedy for months, and lost his primary race after Trump endorsed a rival candidate. Trump publicly celebrated Cassidy’s defeat, writing on social media: “It’s nice to see that his political career is OVER!”

But shortly afterward, Kennedy’s chief counselor, Chris Klomp, arranged a private meeting with the Louisiana senator, said two people familiar with the previously unreported episode.

Among the overarching goals, said one of those people: To thaw tensions and try to smooth the path ahead for the department’s forthcoming nominees.

President Donald Trump entertained the idea of Hunter Biden running for president in 2028, quipping on Thursday that the former first son might have a shot if scandal-plagued candidates like Maine Senate hopeful Graham Platner can survive the political spotlight.

“[Hunter Biden’s] on social media now, and he has suggested – maybe joking, I don’t know – that he could run for president in 2028. How would he do, Hunter Biden, in a 2028 Democratic primary?” Fox News’ Peter Doocy asked Trump on Thursday.

The former first son became active on X in May, sparking speculation that he is gearing up for a potential run for political office.

“I would say his past is not the greatest,” Trump responded.

“Hey, if the guy from Maine can do well,” the president continued. “Well, I guess Hunter could do well, too, because the guy from Maine is a basket case.”

Platner, who Trump was referencing, faces a myriad of campaign controversies stemming from his deleted Reddit account, a Nazi-linked tattoo, hard-drug use, sexting allegations and a newly-released New York Times report detailing his alleged behavior with ex-girlfriends. Biden, meanwhile, has a documented history of drug use and legal troubles, culminating in a sweeping pardon from his father weeks before Trump returned to office.

Despite mounting controversies, Platner remains competitive in polls as he seeks to unseat incumbent GOP Sen. Susan Collins.

Trump also compared a potential Hunter Biden 2028 run to James Talarico, the Democratic nominee for Senate in Texas.

“And I would say worse than him is the one from Texas that looks like Alfred E. Neuman,” he said “I would say that if he can do well, maybe Hunter can do well. I’m not sure, it’ll be pretty close as far as I’m concerned.”

Trump, speaking to the press during an event focused on the administration’s investment in coal energy, also provided some new information about former President Joe Biden’s mental state during a private meeting they held after the 2024 elections.

“President Biden is out promoting a new book this week. When you met with Joe Biden, President Joe Biden, right here in the Oval Office on November the 13th of 2024, could you detect any cognitive decline in President Biden at that time?” a reporter asked.

“No, not really. I mean, he was the same guy I’ve been watching for a long time,” the president answered.

“He was fine as far as I was concerned,” Trump said, adding that “I don’t know, something happened to him during the debate. It could have been me.”

Trump says Bill Pulte won’t be director of national intelligence permanently

    June 4, 2026 / 5:00 PM EDT / CBS News

Washington — President Trump told reporters Thursday that Bill Pulte, his controversial pick for acting director of national intelligence, won’t be nominated to the role permanently, and the administration is interviewing other candidates to fill the role in the long term.

But while Pulte is heading up the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the president said he may “find out some things about the rigged elections,” a notable comment after outgoing Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard attended an FBI search of an election center in Fulton County, Georgia, earlier this year.

“It’s an acting position, it’s not permanent, he’s not going to be permanent because, you know, I don’t think he’d want to be permanent,” Mr. Trump said in the Oval Office. “But he’s a very smart guy and he may find out some things about the rigged elections, etc., etc. I think he’d like to do it. I’d like to — I think he wants to do it very much. Got a lot of energy. But he’ll be very good. Again, it’s not a permanent position. We’re looking at, we’re interviewing people right now. But it’s somebody just to take it over for a little while.”

The president’s pick of Pulte, who has no known national security experience and investigated Trump foes for mortgage fraud as head of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, was not met with enthusiasm on Capitol Hill, at a time when tensions are already high among Senate Republicans. Republicans are looking to extend the federal government’s surveillance powers, but Democrats are threatening to hold up that process if Pulte is in charge of overseeing the nation’s intelligence agencies.

The president was asked if Pulte has the national security experience necessary for the nation’s top intelligence chief.

“I think he does, actually, because he’s smart,” Mr. Trump responded. “Because a lot of national security — look, I wasn’t greatly experienced in national security and I think I’ve done a really great job with it, a lot of people would say that.”

The president also called Pulte a “person who’s got high integrity” and who has done a “phenomenal” job running Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Gabbard’s visit to the raid in Fulton County, a key county in Mr. Trump’s loss to Joe Biden in 2020, raised concerns about the politicization of the intelligence community, including from some Republicans. At the time, a spokesperson for Gabbard said both the president and then-Attorney General Pam Bondi asked her to be present for the FBI search of the elections headquarters. The president said Gabbard attended the search “at Pam’s insistence,” meaning Bondi.

    2026-06-04T20:19:52.461Z / https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/04/politics/kennedy-center-trump-name-memo

Kennedy Center orders staff to remove Trump’s name

    2026-06-04T20:19:52.461Z / https://www.cnn.com/2026/06/04/politics/kennedy-center-trump-name-memo

    • The Kennedy Center’s general counsel ordered staff to remove President Donald Trump’s name from the building by June 12 to comply with a federal court order.
    • Staff were also directed to immediately remove Trump’s name from some documentation, like email signatures and marketing materials.
    • The directive comes after a federal judge ruled that the center’s board violated the law when it added Trump’s name to the historic performing arts venue.

AI-generated summary was reviewed by a CNN editor.

The Kennedy Center’s general counsel ordered staff on Thursday to remove President Donald Trump’s name from the building by June 12, according to a memo obtained by CNN, in order to comply with a recent court order.

Staff were also instructed to immediately update some Kennedy Center documentation — including their email signatures and marketing materials — to remove Trump’s name, according to the memo.

“To comply with this order, you must immediately change email signatures, letterhead, and other documents to reflect the name as ‘The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts,’ or ‘Kennedy Center.’ Other changes, such as to templates and forms, signage, brochures, and website pages, must be completed no later than Friday, June 12, 2026,” the general counsel wrote in the memo, which was first reported by The New York Times.

The directive is a blow to the president’s bid to control the performing arts center and his broader effort to put his stamp on the nation’s capital. His takeover of the institution began in the early days of his second term, when he gutted the existing board and installed loyalists.

“We are complying with the court’s order while evaluating all legal options to preserve this revitalization and recognize President Trump’s leadership,” Roma Daravi, vice president of public relations for the Kennedy Center, said in a statement.

When asked for comment on the memo, the White House referred CNN to Trump’s Truth Social posts responding to last week’s court ruling. A federal judge blocked the Kennedy Center from temporarily closing its doors for a yearslong renovation and said its board violated the law when it added Trump’s name to the historic performing arts venue.

US District Judge Casey Cooper concluded that the law establishing the center “makes crystal clear that the Center is to be named for President Kennedy, and it cannot bear any other formal name or public memorial based on the Board’s unilateral say-so.”

“Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it,” Cooper wrote in his 94-page opinion.

He gave officials two weeks to remove any signage that includes Trump’s name and update its website to remove all references to the name “Trump Kennedy Center” or the “Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts.”

Shortly after the ruling, Trump signaled he was moving away from his focus on the arts center, suggesting he would be transferring control to Congress. (Since its founding, the executive branch has had oversight over the board of trustees while Congress has been responsible for annual appropriations for its operations and maintenance.)

“I have instructed the Department of Commerce to make all necessary arrangements with Congress to allow a full and complete transfer of this Institution, giving them the responsibility for its Operation, Maintenance, and Management,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post last week.

He added that while he was being treated “unfairly,” he had “no interest in continuing” unless he was “free” to do what he wanted to do.

The center’s gift shop had recently put all “Kennedy Center”-branded merchandise on sale — 30% off ahead of the expected closure. A map in the parking garage was affixed with a “Trump Kennedy Center” label. Programs for productions were emblazoned with “Trump.”

But some of the fixtures had yet to include Trump’s name, with concession cups, banners in the grand foyer and digital tickets still bearing the original name.

In an Oval Office appearance Thursday, Trump revealed his latest proposed project for Washington, DC — what he called a “promenade” to connect the Lincoln Memorial with the Potomac River.

“They want to call it the Trump promenade,” he told reporters. “But I don’t know if I want to do that, but it’s going to be beautiful.”

CNN has asked the White House for additional details on the proposal.

CNN’s Devan Cole contributed to this story.

Four Senate Republicans broke ranks to kill another effort to pass President Donald Trump’s marquee voter ID and election integrity legislation as the GOP marches to fund immigration enforcement.

Just like last time, Sens. Susan Collins, R-Maine, Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Thom Tills, R-N.C., joined all Democrats to thwart the move.

It’s the second attempt by Republicans to attach the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act to their budget reconciliation package, and the second time that they’ve failed to get the legislation across the line months after launching a quasi-floor takeover to debate the bill.

DOZEN GOP REBELS FAIL TO PERMANENTLY KILL TRUMP’S CONTROVERSIAL $2B FUND

Sens. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, Susan Collins, R-Maine, and Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., joined Senate Democrats to kill a late-night attempt to attach the SAVE America Act to the GOP’s immigration enforcement funding plan.(Photo by Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images; Photo by Li Ying/Xinhua via Getty Images; Tom Williams/CQ-Roll Call, Inc via Getty Images; Tom Williams/CQ-Roll Call, Inc via Getty Images)

Trying to attach the bill to the nearly $70 billion budget reconciliation package geared toward funding Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Patrol meant that the amendment from Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., needed at least 60 votes to pass.

That threshold again proved too high a bar on Thursday night.

And it’s a result that further solidified the political reality in the upper chamber that the SAVE America Act has little chance of passing, given the unanimous Democratic resistance and lack of total buy-in among the Senate GOP, even if Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., launched the long sought after talking filibuster.

Still, Graham challenged Democrats to bat down the amendment, accusing them of being “probably into cheating” in elections for not supporting voter ID.

“There’s no other reason to say you don’t have to have an ID. It just makes cheating easier,” Graham said. “Who wants a noncitizen voting in our election if you’re against that, that makes me wonder.”

“And biological males playing girls sports [is] not good for anybody, and a minor should not be allowed to transition their sex,” he continued. “That’s the biggest change you can make in your entire life. You shouldn’t be allowed to do that as a minor. This is what we say. What do you say?”

But Sen. Alex Padilla, D-Calif., noted “that just over a month ago, a similar proposal was defeated on a bipartisan basis.”

“Current safeguards are working,” Padilla said. “And yes, it is already unlawful for non-citizens to vote in the United States. What this amendment does is mirrors earlier attempts to push through the president’s priorities, to try to take over elections, to ban vote by mail.”

“And while we’re at it, while they’re at it, attacking trans folks during pride month, that’s pretty damn offensive,” he continued.

June 4 (Reuters) – An appeals court in the U.S. state of Colorado on Thursday ordered a retrial of two paramedics convicted over the death of Elijah McClain, a ‌young Black man who was pinned down by police and injected with a powerful sedative.

McClain, a 23-year-old massage therapist, was stopped by officers in Aurora, a Denver suburb, in 2019 after a report of suspicious behavior. Officers placed him in a neck hold, and paramedics Jeremy Cooper and Peter Cichuniec injected him with an excessive dose of ketamine. He later died.

The case inspired police reforms in Colorado, including a ban on chokeholds.

Cooper and Cichuniec were found guilty of criminally negligent homicide in 2023. The Colorado Court of Appeals reversed those convictions on Thursday, citing errors in the ‌jury instructions, but upheld Cichuniec’s separate conviction for second-degree felony assault.

Cooper was sentenced in 2024 to 14 months in a work-release program, and four years of probation.

Cichuniec was released early from prison in 2024 after a judge reduced his sentence to four years of probation.

Attorneys representing McClain’s mother and the two paramedics did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A jury came to a split verdict for three officers in the case.

Randy Roedema was found guilty of criminally negligent homicide while Jason Rosenblatt was found not guilty on manslaughter and assault charges.

Another police officer, Nathan Woodyard, was found not guilty of manslaughter.
