Pentagon releases 3rd batch of UFO files, detailing mysterious orb sightings: “Are you seeing this?”

    June 12, 2026 / 10:01 AM EDT / CBS News

By Stefan Becket Managing Editor, Digital Politics

Washington — The Pentagon on Friday released a new group of documents and videos related to UFOs, or UAPs, the third release since the government began a wave of new disclosures last month.

The latest batch includes 53 documents and 10 images from the CIA, FBI, NASA, the Department of Defense and other unspecified agencies, along with six videos and three NASA audio recordings. The videos show orb-like objects in the sky, while a set of images and clips offer “artistic interpretations” of reported sightings.

Several of the documents detail encounters reported by federal law enforcement officers in 2023, in which five agents reported seeing strange orbs on the horizon. One agent recounted their partner asking, “Are you seeing this?” as a glowing orb lit up the sky.

    What’s in the latest files?

The Pentagon uploaded the files to its UFO website. Four of the videos show eyewitness footage of strange encounters, a shift from previous releases, which were dominated by military footage. The new videos, which were collected by the FBI, include details from interviews with the witnesses.

One encounter happened in July 2025. The video, titled “Northeastern Orb Sighting, shows two bright lights moving through the sky.

“The witnesses described the orbs’ motion as silent and smooth, and as moving in tandem as though they were flying in formation or tethered together,” the video description said, citing the FBI’s interviews.

Eyewitness video showing bright lights in the sky in the northeastern United States in July 2025, captured on an iPhone. FBI/Pentagon

Another video, called “Orbs Over the Pond,” shows an encounter from October 2024, which occurred within 25 miles of the Northeastern Orb Sighting. The footage shows “a light source below the horizon, hovering above a pond at an estimated distance of 2,700 feet,” the Pentagon’s description said.

“The luminous object resembled a ‘plasma-like sphere’ intermittently changing shape and luminosity. At times, the primary light source appeared to separate into smaller luminous points,” the Pentagon said. “A luminous point below the primary source hovered just above the water and did not appear consistent with a surface reflection. The object remained generally stationary for approximately 45 minutes before disappearing.”

A frame from the “Orbs Over the Pond” video, capture by an eyewitness on an iPhone in October 2024 in the northeastern U.S. Pentagon

One of the files includes documents from a panel convened by the CIA in 1952 and 1953, dubbed the “Scientific Advisory Panel on Unidentified Flying Objects.” The panel concluded that flying saucers did not pose a physical threat, but recommended an official policy of “debunking” the issue to “strip the UFO subject of its mystery.” The group warned that a “morbid national psychology” around UFOs could be exploited by adversaries.

Another intriguing disclosure centers around a series of strange events in the Western U.S. that occurred over the course of two days in October 2023. Five “federal law enforcement special agents” provided their accounts to the Pentagon’s All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office, and each narrative is included in the files.

One agent said the sightings began with “weird lights moving along in groups miles away.” Another said red lights “accelerated instantly and maneuvered with perfect, smooth coordination into a horizontal formation.” A person identified as Witness 4 described smaller orbs “being hatched from the larger very bright orange light” multiple times, losing count “after five occurrences.” Witness 3 said the discharged orbs were like “grapes being expelled from a basketball,” and recalled their partner saying, “Are you seeing this?”

The FBI produced digital renderings of the agents’ accounts to recreate the sightings. The Pentagon said that the renderings were prepared in 2026:

The recent releases of files were prompted by an executive order President Trump signed earlier this year mandating the Pentagon to disclose more documents related to UFOs. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said the move “demonstrates the Trump Administration’s earnest commitment to unprecedented transparency.”

California accused of blocking federal voter roll audit as DOJ escalates probe of election fraud claims

    June 12, 2026 8:51am EDT / Fox News

Assistant US attorney in California questions why the state won’t open its records: ‘What are they afraid of?’

    By Alec Schemmel, Fox News

California’s ‘election regime’ is destroying trust in the voting system, says GOP senator

Sen. Eric Schmitt, R-Mo., and Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., criticize California’s ‘despicable’ election system on ‘The Ingraham Angle.’

NEW You can now listen to Fox News articles!

The Justice Department is escalating its clash with California over voter-roll access, accusing state officials of blocking a federal audit — though Golden State officials warn the demand threatens voter privacy and oversteps federal authority.

The dispute centers on voter roll maintenance and access to registration records, not any publicly identified allegation of impropriety in a specific California race.

“If California genuinely wants voters to trust its elections, it should open its records, not fight to keep them closed,” Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli said in a lengthy post on X that included a copy of a letter U.S. Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon, who leads the DOJ office enforcing federal voting-rights laws, sent to California Secretary of State Shirley Weber last year demanding the state’s voter rolls for inspection.

“What are they afraid of?,” Essayli questioned.

MORE THAN 500,000 CALIFORNIANS DEMAND VOTING OVERHAUL, BACK ‘STRAIGHTFORWARD’ ID LAW

California’s rules allow certain first-time voters who do not provide a Social Security number or driver’s license when registering to verify their identity with documents including gym membership cards, employer IDs, credit or debit cards, prescription labels and insurance cards — a policy Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli says warrants scrutiny.(Christina House / Los Angeles Times via Getty Images; Emily Elconin/REUTERS)

Dhillon’s letter followed an Aug. 8 response from Weber’s office raising concerns about privacy protections that could be implicated by the state voter-registration data sought by the federal government. A spokesperson from California Governor Gavin Newsom’s office told Fox News Digital that “every federal court to consider the issue has ruled U.S. DOJ’s demands violate federal law,” adding that “unlike this federal administration, we don’t do things that are illegal.”

Weber’s office offered to let DOJ inspect a redacted voter-registration database by appointment in Sacramento, arguing that satisfied their legal obligations, but Dhillon rejected that proposal and demanded an electronic copy of the statewide voter list “with all fields,” according to legal filings from the ongoing dispute taking place in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.

“We also have serious concerns about how California maintains its voter rolls,” Essayli wrote in his X post, calling out California Democrats for blocking the federal audit of their voter rolls. “There are open questions about whether the state is promptly removing deceased voters, people who have moved, and individuals convicted of disqualifying felonies.”

Essayli also highlighted how California’s rules allow certain first-time voters who do not provide a Social Security number or driver’s license when registering to verify their identity with documents including gym membership cards, employer IDs, credit or debit cards, prescription labels and insurance cards — a policy his office says warrants scrutiny.

NONCITIZENS ON VOTER ROLLS IN DEMOCRAT-RUN STATE EXPOSED AS RNC CHAIR PLEDGES SECURE ELECTIONS

“On top of that, California allows third parties to collect and turn in ballots on voters’ behalf (a practice known as ballot harvesting) with few restrictions,” Essayli added. “This makes it difficult to track who actually received, completed, and submitted each ballot.”

The California Attorney General’s office pushed back on Essayli’s framing, noting that DOJ had already lost the case at the district court level and that the pending Ninth Circuit fight stems from the federal government’s appeal of that dismissal.

A U.S. District Judge dismissed the DOJ’s lawsuit in January, with the presiding judge writing that the department was seeking “an unprecedented amount of personal information” from California’s unredacted voter rolls, including names, Social Security numbers, home addresses, voting history and other sensitive information from nearly 23 million Californians. The judge also wrote that DOJ could not use federal election laws in a way that “wholly disregards the separation of powers provided for in the Constitution.”

FEDERAL JUDGE REJECTS TRUMP ADMIN LAWSUIT SEEKING MICHIGAN VOTER ROLLS

A spokesperson for Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office highlighted in a statement to Fox News Digital that the DOJ has brought approximately 30 voter roll lawsuits nationwide and has lost all eight voter roll cases that have been decided to date.

The fight for federal access to California’s voter rolls comes as voter roll maintenance has been a concern of President Donald Trump and Republicans nationally.

“If fraudsters do it right, it can be many, many more votes like this,” Illinois GOP Chairman Bob Grogan told Fox News Digital two weeks ago after a Democratic city official in his state turned herself in for allegedly using her dead mother’s name to vote. Grogan expressed particular concern with mail-in balloting, even though he did recognize its necessity in some cases.

TRUMP-APPOINTED FEDERAL JUDGE TOSSES DOJ LAWSUIT SEEKING ARIZONA VOTER DATA

“Mail ballots are especially vulnerable, which is why they should be secured, should never be mailed without a specific request from the voter, and should always be verified before they are tabulated. This case also shows how essential it is to maintain clean voter rolls,” Jason Snead, who runs the Honest Elections Project, told Fox News Digital about the Illinois case. “Had the list maintenance process been slower, it is possible this illegal vote would have been counted before the fraud was discovered. Unfortunately, too many states — particularly blue states — actively resist commonsense safeguards, which begs the question: how many other illegal votes have slipped through the system?”

Dead registrants have also fueled broader scrutiny of voter roll maintenance nationally.

North Carolina election officials said in April they identified roughly 34,000 deceased people still listed on the state’s voter rolls after a federal database comparison, while other recent local controversies have included allegations or investigations involving deceased voters appearing on registration lists or absentee-ballot records.

Republicans have argued cases such as these show why states should be more transparent about how they maintain voter lists. RNC Chairman Joe Gruters told Fox News Digital that the New Jersey records were “eye-opening” and said the party has sought voter roll maintenance information from nearly every state.

DOJ has already pursued a similar records fight inside California, suing Orange County’s registrar last year for allegedly refusing to provide records to help remove noncitizens from its voter-registration list. At the time, Dhillon said removing noncitizens from California’s voter rolls was “critical” to ensuring the state’s rolls are accurate and that elections are conducted without fraudulent voting.

    • Summary
    • Bankman-Fried convicted over FTX fraud at 2023 trial
    • Former cryptocurrency executive argued he had funds to cover customer losses
    • Bankman-Fried is seeking a pardon from President Donald Trump

NEW YORK, June 12 (Reuters) – Sam Bankman-Fried on Friday lost his bid to overturn his fraud conviction ‌and 25-year prison sentence over the collapse of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange he founded.

In a unanimous decision, a three-judge panel of the Manhattan-based 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said prosecutors’ evidence against Bankman-Fried “was, conservatively stated, robust.”

“While he was publicly reassuring customers, investors and regulators that FTX customer funds were safe, he was simultaneously using FTX as his own personal piggy bank, spending customer funds on real estate, political contributions, and investments,” Circuit Judge Barrington Parker wrote on behalf of the panel.

Bankman-Fried’s lawyers did not immediately respond to a request for comment. They may next ask all the active judges on the 2nd Circuit to hear the case, or ask the U.S. Supreme Court to take up the case.

Bankman-Fried is also seeking a pardon from President Donald Trump, according to the Justice Department’s Office of the Pardon Attorney. Neither the White House nor the Justice Department immediately responded to requests for comment.

    ‘FRAUD OF EPIC PROPORTIONS’

Bankman-Fried, who had been one of the cryptocurrency sector’s most influential figures and a multibillionaire before FTX’s spectacular collapse in 2022, was found guilty on seven felony charges by a federal jury in Manhattan in 2023.

Prosecutors with the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office said he stole $8 billion from FTX customers to plug losses at his crypto-focused hedge fund, Alameda Research, in what they termed a “fraud of epic proportions.”

Bankman-Fried had ‌pleaded not guilty to the two counts of fraud and five counts of conspiracy that he faced. At his trial, he admitted to making mistakes running FTX, but testified that he never stole funds.

In appealing the conviction, Bankman-Fried’s defense lawyers argued that U.S. District Judge Lewis Kaplan, who oversaw the trial, improperly prevented Bankman-Fried from introducing evidence to back up his belief that FTX had enough funds to cover customer withdrawals.

The appeals court disagreed, pointing to legal precedent holding that fraud occurs the moment a defendant tricks someone into handing over money or property, even if the defendant intends to eventually make the victim whole.

“FTX customers were defrauded as soon as Bankman-Fried transferred their money to Alameda regardless of how strongly he believed he might later return the money,” Parker wrote.

BANKMAN-FRIED ELIGIBLE FOR RELEASE IN 2044

Before FTX collapsed, Bankman-Fried was a rising star in the rough-and-tumble crypto industry who burnished his reputation with lavish philanthropic and political donations.

At his March 2024 sentencing hearing, Kaplan said Bankman-Fried knew his actions were wrong but “made a very bad bet about the likelihood of getting caught.”

Three of Bankman-Fried’s former deputies pleaded guilty over their involvement in the case and testified against their onetime boss at his trial.

Bankman-Fried is being held at a low-security federal prison near Santa Barbara, California. He is eligible for release in 2044.

Judge continues to block Justice Department’s $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund

    June 12, 2026 / 11:52 AM EDT / CBS News

Alexandria, Virginia— A federal judge on Friday continued to block the Justice Department’s nearly $1.8 billion “anti-weaponization” fund, expressing skepticism with the Trump administration’s claims that the controversial program is not moving forward.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema granted a preliminary injunction that indefinitely prevents the Trump administration from creating or operating the controversial fund. She had issued an order last month that temporarily blocked the Justice Department from taking any action related to the fund to ensure that no payouts were made while she considered a request for longer relief sought by plaintiffs challenging the program.

Brinkema gave the government one week to submit a sworn declaration signed by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, under penalty of perjury, that asserts that the fund will not move forward. If the Justice Department submits the declaration, the judge said she is likely to drop the case.

During a brief hearing, Brinkema rejected the Justice Department’s arguments that the case is moot because of Blanche’s contention that the department is not moving forward with the fund. Andrew Block, a Justice Department lawyer, had also said in court papers that the fund “had not been set up and is now not going forward.”

But Brinkema said none of those statements about the fund’s future were made under penalty of perjury, so “that means the issue really is not moot.” She also cited recent statements from President Trump expressing support for the fund as demonstrating a lack of “uncontestable evidence” that the program would not be revived in some form.

Brinkema also questioned Block about why Blanche hasn’t rescinded an order from May 18 that established the fund, or committed to writing his assertion that it would not be moving forward. Block said he hadn’t spoken to the acting attorney general about the matter.

In response, the judge said she couldn’t believe, “given the significance of the case,” that Block would not have spoken with Blanche about why he hasn’t rescinded the order creating the “anti-weaponization” fund, and said it creates a “huge gap” in the case record.

While Block, who appeared alone on behalf of the Justice Department, noted that no members have been appointed to administer the fund, Brinkema was unpersuaded.

She called it “problematic” that nearly $1.8 billion in taxpayer dollars could go to people who were convicted of crimes stemming from the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the U.S. Capitol.

The judge also read directly from a friend-of-the-court brief submitted by Sens. Cory Booker, a New Jersey Democrat, and Bill Cassidy, a Louisiana Republican, that raised concerns with the fund, and said the public interest in the case is “very, very strong” in support of the plaintiffs suing the Trump administration over the program.

The two senators said the fund presented an “immediate and dire threat” to the constitutional order and was designed to provide payouts to people involved in the Jan. 6 assault.

Skye Perryman, president and CEO of Democracy Forward, which is representing the plaintiffs challenging the fund, lauded the decision from Brinkema.

“This ruling is a significant victory for the Constitution, the rule of law, and people in America,” she said in a statement. “The court recognized the serious legal concerns raised by the Trump-Vance administration’s attempt to create a secretive, taxpayer-funded compensation program operating outside the constitutional safeguards that govern public spending. Despite the administration’s shifting explanations about the future of the slush fund, the court’s order ensures that taxpayer dollars cannot be distributed through this unlawful scheme while the courts fully consider the serious constitutional issues at stake. We look forward to continuing this challenge on behalf of our clients.”

The Justice Department announced the fund last month as part of a deal to settle a civil lawsuit Mr. Trump filed against the IRS in January over the leak of his tax returns by a former government contractor. The $1.776 billion fund aimed to “provide a systematic process to hear and redress claims of others who suffered weaponization and lawfare,” according to the Justice Department.

The settlement gave five people appointed by the attorney general the authority to distribute payouts. The Justice Department did not specify who could benefit from the fund, but shortly after it was announced, several people convicted of crimes related to the Jan. 6 attack and Trump allies said they planned to apply for relief.
