    Three Indian sailors were killed in a U.S. strike on a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Oman Tuesday, according to India’s shipping minister.

    U.S. Central Command accused the ship of violating the ongoing naval blockade of Iran’s ports and associated vessels, saying in a statement that the engine room of the Palau-flagged M/T Settebello oil tanker was fired on after the crew “repeatedly failed to comply with directions from American forces.”

    New Delhi’s shipping minister Sarbananda Sonowal said Thursday that three Indian seafarers — who were initially reported missing — have died, and their bodies had been identified.

    “It is deeply unfortunate to learn of the tragic incident aboard the Palau-flagged MT Settebello,” he said in a statement. “This is a profound loss to our maritime family.”

    The deceased sailors were identified as Aditya Sharma, Shivanand Chaurasiya and Patnala Suresh. India’s ANI news agency aired video of Chaurasiya’s father Rami breaking down in tears as he described receiving the news of his son’s death.

    “We want to know the full truth of what happened,” Sharma’s grandfather told the Press Trust of India. “Our hearts are shattered.”

    The Indian Express reported that Aditya had told his father the ship received two warnings from the U.S. Navy in the two weeks before the strike took place.

    The Indian External Affairs Ministry condemned attacks on ships in a statement Wednesday, saying “the continuing incidents of attacks on shipping in the region are deeply worrisome.”

    “The targeting of commercial shipping and civilian infrastructure in the region must end,” the ministry said.

    On Thursday, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India’s government had summoned a senior U.S. diplomat to register a “strong protest,” adding that India expected the U.S. to “take due note.”

    The Settebello was one of at least three tankers hit by U.S. strikes in the Gulf of Oman this week. On Thursday, CENTOM said it had disabled the Guinea-Bissau-flagged M/T Jalveer for “attempting to transport Iranian oil.”

    U.S. forces fired two Hellfire missiles into the ship’s engine room “after the crew repeatedly failed to comply with directions,” according to a statement posted by CENTCOM on social media.

    On Monday, CENTCOM said it had disabled the Palau-flagged M/T Marivex, which is sanctioned by the U.S., because it was “attempting to sail to an Iranian port”.

    A video sent to CBS News by a crew member on the ship appeared to show smoke coming from the vessel, with another vessel seen nearby.

    At least nine ships have been disabled for not complying with U.S. forces since the blockade on Iran was initiated on April 13, according to CENTCOM. On Wednesday, President Trump insisted the blockade was serving its intended purpose of putting pressure on the Iranian regime.

    “The Fake News Media refuses to report how EFFECTIVE the U.S. Naval BLOCKADE is, the most successful Blockade in the history of Naval Warfare. NOTHING GETS THROUGH unless we want it to,” Mr. Trump declared in a Truth Social post. “Iran is doing ZERO business, not paying their military, or any of their bills, and quickly becoming a FAILED NATION! Lots of oil is getting out. Praise be to Allah!”

    June 11 (Reuters) – The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Thursday authorized the emergency use of a generic over-the-counter tablet to treat ​infestations caused by the New World screwworm in dogs and ‌cats, as the government steps up efforts to contain the parasite.

    U.S. officials this month confirmed the first domestic cases of the parasite in more than ​six decades in cattle, a goat and a dog ​in Texas and New Mexico.

    New World screwworm is a ⁠fly whose larvae feed on living tissue, entering animals through ​open wounds and burrowing into the flesh.

    The agency said nitenpyram tablets, ​a fast-acting treatment, can be used in pets weighing at least two pounds and at least four weeks old, adding that the drug is expected ​to help kill most larvae within hours of the first ​dose.

    A second dose should be given six hours after the first, the agency said, ‌but ⁠added that the drug may not protect against reinfestation and veterinarians may still need to remove remaining larvae and treat wounds.

    U.S. officials have warned that while most pets in the country face ​low risk, animals ​that have recently ⁠been in affected areas were more vulnerable.

    The tablets, available in two dosage strengths, are the first generic animal ​drug cleared under an emergency pathway for this ​use.

    Officials said ⁠the move was part of a broader push by U.S. health and agriculture agencies to limit the spread of the parasite and ⁠ensure ​pet owners have access to affordable ​treatment options.

    The benefits of the treatment outweigh potential risks based on available evidence, the ​FDA said.

    EXCLUSIVE:A top Trump agency is cutting off funding to the Los Angeles agency responsible for coordinating billions in homelessness spending after accusing it of “obvious fraud,” “wanton mismanagement” and repeated failures to safeguard taxpayer dollars, Fox News Digital has learned.

    The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), which is a member of the White House fraud task force led by Vice President JD Vance, is immediately suspending the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority’s (LAHSA) federal funding while HUD’s inspector general investigates potential offenses by the agency and its leadership, according to a letter sent to LAHSA’s board chair Wendy Greuel and its CEO Gita O’Neill, which was obtained and reviewed by Fox News Digital.

    The letter detailed conflicts of interest, financial mismanagement, fraud, lack of oversight, and more from the homelessness agency, which has faced efforts by the city and county to take it over.

    The move puts one of the country’s biggest homelessness bureaucracies under direct federal scrutiny after years of criticism that billions have gone into homelessness programs in Los Angeles while the crisis remains entrenched on the streets. LAHSA receives funding at the city, county, state and federal level, with the group getting nearly $1 billion from just the federal government since 2021, according to HUD.

    “Suspending LAHSA’s participation in federal government programs is a necessary step in accomplishing that critical mission in Los Angeles,” HUD wrote in the letter. “LAHSA’s failures have been so severe and pervasive that Los Angeles County has withdrawn its funding for the agency, and the City of Los Angeles is considering doing so as well.”

    LAHSA’s former top executive, Va Lecia Adams Kellum, resigned last year after she was found to have been a party to directing $2.1 million in federal funds under LAHSA’s control to her husband’s Santa Monica-based nonprofit employer.

    HUD says a federal judge last year also concluded that LAHSA had committed “obvious fraud” after it allegedly kept requesting funding for an 88-bed shelter even though it knew the shelter was operating at roughly half-capacity.

    HUD noted in its letter that the judge considered placing LAHSA into receivership as well.

    LAHSA’s inability to verify the existence of nearly 2,300 housing sites for which it was responsible is another recent issue that has plagued the homelessness provider, according to HUD, which said 70% of the contracts for those sites did not disclose any expenses over the prior year.

    Public audits of LAHSA, meanwhile, found a pattern of routinely paying service providers late and poor record keeping preventing it from monitoring contracts, including $5 million in cash advances sent to five different service providers, according to the Associated Press. In November 2024, the City Controller’s Office found that LAHSA failed to spend $513 million in public funds budgeted in fiscal year 2024, blaming a lack of staff and old technology, according to HUD.

    “Under President Trump’s leadership, HUD will fund results, not corrupt failure or the homeless industrial complex,” HUD Secretary Scott Turner said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “Year after year, hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars were funneled to LAHSA with little accountability. Meanwhile,homelessness skyrocketed. Taxpayers will no longer bankroll an organization that puts its own self-interests ahead of the Americans it was created to serve.”

    Other audits concluded that LAHSA’s poor record keeping made it unable to accurately identify or calculate how well its spending has been benefiting the homeless population in Los Angeles.

    Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew Ferguson, who is the vice chair of the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud, praised the leadership on this issue from HUD Secretary Scott Turner, President Donald Trump and Vance, who serves as the chairman of the fraud task force that was established earlier this year.

    “Los Angeles didn’t care about helping the homeless, but the Trump Administration does,” Ferguson told Fox News Digital. “It is unconscionable that Los Angeles has wasted billions of taxpayer dollars that was supposed to be used on housing our nation’s most vulnerable. Instead of providing a roof and care for the homeless, Los Angeles has used these funds to line the pockets of left-wing NGOs. Such a disgrace ends today.”

    Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass and Los Angeles officials have pointed to recent homeless-count data as evidence that the crisis has begun to improve, with LAHSA reporting that countywide homelessness fell for a second straight year in 2025 and Bass saying it marked the first time in the city’s recent history that homelessness had declined two years in a row.

    But the numbers still showed more than 72,000 people experiencing homelessness across Los Angeles County, and critics have continued to argue that modest declines do not erase years of runaway spending, encampments and repeated audit findings that the region’s homelessness system has failed to adequately track whether taxpayer dollars are producing results.

    The federal action from HUD comes after Los Angeles city and county officials had already begun backing away from LAHSA, the Associated Press reported last year.

    The city council moved to explore bypassing the agency and contracting directly with providers, while the county moved to redirect hundreds of millions of dollars in annual homelessness funding away from LAHSA and into a new county department, citing the need for stronger accountability after a series of audits.

    “HUD cannot ignore LAHSA’s wanton mismanagement of public funds.HUD’s mission is to reduce the plague of homelessness in America,” the agency’s letter to LAHSA leadership on Thursday stated. “Turning over billions of dollars from American taxpayers to an organization under investigation and suspected of gross misuse of federal funding and “obvious fraud” does nothing to reduce homelessness. Indeed, diverting dollars from worthy programs to LAHSA merely makes the homeless crisis worse.”

    Federal officials are seeking an aggressive work schedule to construct President Trump’s triumphal arch near Arlington National Cemetery, which includes a 20-hour-a-day work schedule over two to three years, according to documents published on the Federal Register this week.

    The construction phase could last up to 11 months and “would require several tower cranes, forklifts, skid steers, drill rigs, and concrete pumping systems,” National Park Service documents filed to the federal register said. “Work would occur year-round, with work occurring in two 10-hour shifts per day (20 hours per day, year-round) for the duration of the construction period.”

    For months, Mr. Trump has been touting plans for a 250-foot triumphal arch in a traffic circle in between the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. The proposed site technically falls within the boundaries of the District of Columbia, although it is on the Virginia side of the Potomac.

    Vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic on the Arlington Memorial Bridge, a key artery between Washington, D.C. and Virginia, and Arlington Boulevard, which borders Arlington National Cemetery, would be affected. Westbound traffic would be reduced from three lanes to two on the bridge.

    Officials have proposed that the arch be located in the middle of Memorial Circle, at the entrance to the bridge, and the new plans say that the construction will require a “series of physical modifications within and around Memorial Circle.” Memorial Circle is also directly adjacent to the entrance to Arlington National Cemetery.

    If construction goes forward as proposed, the arch would dwarf the 99-foot Lincoln Memorial, which is across the bridge. It would also be roughly 30 feet taller than the Plaza de la República in Mexico City, currently the largest arch in the world.

    The National Park Service documents say the 250-foot height “is intended to celebrate 250 years of American independence.”

    While many of D.C.’s monuments are constructed in natural stone such as marble and limestone, the arch will be built from concrete and finished with granite.

    The Federal Aviation Administration said last week that it is conducting a full aeronautical study in coordination with the National Park Service, which is listed as the sponsor of the plan. The FAA said in a statement last week that “career safety experts found no adverse impacts to operations” at nearby Ronald Reagan National Airport.

    The FAA feasibility study found that safety lights would need to be added, saying these red obstruction lights cannot “not penetrate the visual traffic pattern” and not “have any effect on airport facilities or radio/visual navigational and landing aids.”

    The comment period on the arch is currently open. It will close on June 15, 2026.
