中国掀起黄金投资热之际，深圳一家黄金预定价平台发生暴雷。官方通报称，公司已开通线上签约兑付渠道，并设立线下接洽办理点，初步审计显示“网传金额明显夸大”。

中国最大黄金珠宝集散市场深圳水贝的一家黄金预定价平台杰我睿，以及多个关联的线上平台1月中旬被曝陷入兑付危机。

中国媒体早前引述投资者自行统计数据称，未兑付资金超过百亿元（人民币，下同，100亿元人民币约18亿新元）。而另据一份投资者提供的呈报书，截至1月27日仅初步实名统计，涉案未结算金额达2.46亿元。

杰我睿所在的深圳罗湖区政府上周三（28日）通报，已成立工作专班搜集资料和人员情况。官方三天后再发通报称，杰我睿已委托第三方专业机构进行审计，“初步结果显示，网传金额明显夸大”。

据杰我睿公告，截至上周五（30日）中午前签约客户将于星期一（2月2日）前全部兑付。但《新京报》引述一名投资者称，兑付方案有本金分期支付打四折，或一次性支付打两折，因此准备等待其他方案。

日本众院来临星期天（2月8日）举行选举，各大媒体发布选战中盘调查显示，首相高市早苗领导的自民党议席将大增，在角逐的465个议席中，可能拿下超过300个议席。

日本主流媒体上周已预测自民党领先其他政党，可单独拿下众院半数233个议席以上。《朝日新闻》2月1日发布选战调查，更显示自民党势力大大扩展，可单独拿下至少278个议席，最多是306个议席。它与执政党联盟维新党可联手在议会内，占据三分之二的绝对稳定多数议席（即310个）。

分析指出，自民占据优势归功于“高市的超高人气”。 在276个单议席选区中，预计自民党占据大约200到260个。代表温和派的“中道改革联盟”（下称中道）等政党仅占10到40个议席，两者的差距巨大。

“中道” 是立宪民主党及公明党这两个反对党在选前匆忙组成的新党，希望获得60%的独立选民支持，但目前仅获得约20%的支持。中盘民意显示，这个新党未形成对抗势力，支持率仅10%，自民党的支持率为33%。中道在选前有167个议席，基于大部分选区面临激烈竞争，极可能会丧失一半。

Elephant kills tourist at national park in Thailand, third fatality linked to the same animal

A wild bull elephant killed a tourist in central Thailand’s Khao Yai National Park on Monday, a park official said, the third fatality linked to the same animal.

The 65-year-old Thai tourist from Lopburi province was out for a morning walk with his wife when he was trampled to death by an elephant named Oyewan, national park chief Chaiya Huayhongthong told AFP.

His wife managed to escape after park rangers scared the animal away, Chaiya said.

“He was the third person killed by Oyewan,” he said, adding that the wild bull elephant could have been responsible for several more deaths that remain unsolved.

Chaiya said authorities will meet on Friday to decide what to do with the elephant.

“We will probably decide to relocate him or change his behavior,” he said, without elaborating.

More than 220 people, including tourists, have been killed by wild elephants since 2012, according to the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation.

Wild elephant numbers in Thailand rose from 334 in 2015 to almost 800 last year, prompting authorities to administer contraceptive vaccines to female animals in an effort to control their ballooning population.

An elephant killed a Spanish tourist while she was bathing the animal at a sanctuary in southern Thailand in January last year.

Another tourist was killed by an elephant at a national park in Loei province in northern Thailand in December 2024.

There have been deadly elephant attacks in other parts of the world recently.

Last month, officials in India said a rampaging wild elephant was blamed for killing at least 20 people and injuring 15 others in the forests of Jharkhand.

Last July, two women from the U.K. and New Zealand were killed by an elephant while on a walking safari in Zambia.

In April 2025, officials in Kenya said a 54-year-old man was killed by an elephant in the central part of the country.

In January last year, a tourist was killed by an elephant in South Africa’s famous Kruger Park.

Rapper Nicki Minaj voiced support for voter ID laws in a Sunday post on X, questioning why the issue remains a subject of debate in the United States.

Luna has been a vocal proponent for passing the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, commonly known as the SAVE Act.

The SAVE Act would require individuals to provide documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote in federal elections.

Under the bill, states would be barred from accepting or processing voter registration applications unless applicants present approved documentation showing they are U.S. citizens.

The Brennan Center for Justice, a nonpartisan policy institute based in New York City, has sharply criticized the SAVE Act, arguing in a 2025 analysis that the legislation could disenfranchise tens of millions of eligible American voters.

The group said the bill’s requirement that voters present citizenship documents like a passport or birth certificate when registering or re-registering to vote would disrupt widely used registration methods and disproportionately affect voters who lack ready access to those documents.

Pennsylvania Democrats and Republicans are finding rare common ground — defending Punxsutawney Phil from animal rights activists.

Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) and GOP lawmakers are jointly rejecting pressure from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) to retire the famed groundhog after he predicted six more weeks of winter on Monday.

Shapiro amplified the moment on social media by posting an image of a yellow Gadsden flag — a symbol associated with conservative politics and the 2010s Tea Party movement — but with the typical snake replaced by a groundhog.

Meanwhile, the leader of the Pennsylvania House Republican caucus told Fox News Digital that PETA’s latest idea, to replace Phil with a groundhog hologram, is off base.

“PETA lacks as much good taste as they do credibility here. Punxsutawney Phil and the celebration of Groundhog Day are core parts of what it means to be Pennsylvanian and are cherished by the nation,” said House Minority Leader Jesse Topper of Bedford.

“On top of that, Phil is treated like royalty, and rightfully so,” Topper said, referencing his spacious library digs that also include a large window allowing sunlight and the smiles of passersby.

“It sounds like it is time PETA be forcibly retired from bad takes and outlandish viewpoints.”

In a statement, PETA said it wants to give Groundhog Day a “much-needed glow-up.”

“Retire Phil to a reputable sanctuary with his family,and we’ll provide a giant, state-of-the-art, 3-D projection hologram of a groundhog along with a vocal prognostication to light up the Gobbler’s Knob stage,” PETA said in a statement.

Pennsylvania Deputy Tourism Secretary Anne Ryan said in a statement that Punxsutawney Phil “draws national and international attention” to Pennsylvania every year.

“Six more weeks of winter means more time to enjoy everything that makes this season special — from skiing and snowboarding to cozy small towns, historic sites, and festive winter events,” Ryan said, alluding to the commonwealth’s latest tourism slogan, “The Great American Getaway.”

Punxsutawney Phil lives with his wife Phyllis and their young kit at the Jefferson County Library in downtown Punxsutawney, halfway between Altoona and Erie.

The famed groundhog’s support extends well beyond his burrow. Across Pennsylvania’s historically German regions, including the Lehigh Valley and Dutch Country, Groundhog Day is marked by feasts hosted by more than a dozen “Grundsau Lodsch,” or Groundhog Lodges, featuring traditional food, music and weather forecasts delivered in the Pennsylfaanisch dialect.

There is also the famous 1993 Bill Murray film named after the holiday.

Jobs report this week will be delayed by government shutdown, Labor Department says

The Department of Labor won’t issue its report on U.S. hiring in January on Friday as planned because of the partial government shutdown.

“The Employment Situation release for January 2026 will not be released as scheduled on Friday, February 6, 2026. The release will be rescheduled upon the resumption of government funding,” a spokeswoman for the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unit that compiles the monthly unemployment report, told CBS News in an email.

The disruption in jobs data comes amid questions about the strength of the labor market, with large corporations such as Amazon and UPS announcing major job cuts in recent weeks.

At the same time, the Federal Reserve kept its benchmark interest rate steady at its meeting last month, with Fed Chair Jerome Powell citing an improvement in the unemployment rate and a pickup in economic growth.

The interruption in hiring figures follows major delays in official federal economic data last fall, when a 43-day shutdown pushed back releases of the monthly Consumer Price Index and labor market reports.

A Russian cargo plane typically used to transfer military equipment landed at a military airfield in Havana Sunday night, echoing flight patterns seen ahead of the capture of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela.

The U.S.-sanctioned Ilyushin Il-76, operated by Russian state-linked airline Aviacon Zitotrans, was tracked landing at San Antonio de los Baños Airfield, a Cuban military installation roughly 30 miles south of Havana, according to public flight data.

Flight-tracking records show the aircraft stopped in St. Petersburg and Sochi in Russia; Mauritania, Africa; and the Dominican Republic. Each landing would have required approval from host governments, offering a window into which countries are continuing to permit Russian military-linked aviation activity despite Western sanctions.

The same aircraft conducted flights to Venezuela, Nicaragua and Cuba in late October 2025, as tensions between Washington and Caracas escalated. That movement preceded U.S. military action in Venezuela that ultimately ended Maduro’s rule — a sequence U.S. officials and analysts have since pointed to as a warning indicator when evaluating similar Russian aviation activity in the region.

Now, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel finds himself under mounting pressure from President Donald Trump, who has sharply intensified U.S. policy toward Havana in recent weeks.

On Thursday, Trump declared a national emergency related to Cuba, asserting that the Cuban government poses an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to U.S. national security and foreign policy interests. The administration also said it would impose penalties on any country that sells or supplies oil to Cuba without U.S. authorization.

Trump confirmed Sunday that the U.S. is engaged in direct talks with Cuban officials.

“Cuba is a failing nation. It has been for a long time, but now it doesn’t have Venezuela to prop it up,” Trump told reporters at Mar-a-Lago, Florida. “So we’re talking to the people from Cuba, the highest people in Cuba, to see what happens. I think we’re going to make a deal with Cuba.”

Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have both indicated support for political change in Havana, though the administration has not said whether it would pursue that objective through military action.

Russian military ties to Cuba have repeatedly triggered concern in Washington. While the Soviet Union’s footprint on the island receded after the Cold War, Moscow has steadily rebuilt defense and intelligence cooperation with Havana over the past decade. U.S. officials have warned that renewed Russian activity in Cuba could pose security risks close to the U.S. mainland.

The Il-76 is a heavy transport aircraft capable of carrying roughly 50 tons of cargo or up to 200 personnel, a capability that has drawn scrutiny given the operator’s history. Aviacon Zitotrans has been sanctioned by the United States, Canada and Ukraine for supporting Russia’s defense sector.

“Aviacon Zitotrans has shipped military equipment such as rockets, warheads, and helicopter parts all over the world,” the U.S. Treasury Department said in January 2023, when it added the airline to its sanctions list.

It remains unclear what cargo the aircraft carried on its most recent flight. During earlier operations in Venezuela, Russian state media and a Russian lawmaker said the same aircraft delivered Pantsir-S1 short-range and Buk-M2E medium-range air defense systems to Caracas.

The shine is coming off gold and silver. Prices for the precious metals, which last week soared to record highs, are extending their slide after a sharp selloff on Friday.

Gold, which topped $5,500 last week, dipped below $4,500 per ounce in overnight trading. Friday’s decline amounted to the biggest one-day drop in the shiny metal’s price since 2013, noted Pepperstone senior research strategist Michael Brown. Silver also suffered its worst daily loss, tumbling more than 31%.

As of 10:30 a.m. EDT, gold and silver had rebounded to $4,779 and $81.

What’s behind the metals meltdown?

Investors have poured into the metals in the last year amid concerns about mounting global geopolitical uncertainty and government borrowing, as debt levels across the U.S. and other major economies continue to rise.

The sell-off on Friday came after President Trump announced Kevin Warsh as his nominee to succeed Jerome Powell as chair of the Federal Reserve. Although Warsh has over the last year argued in favor of lowering interest rates, he is generally viewed as “hawkish” on inflation.

With consumer prices still running above the Fed’s annual 2% target, that could incline Warsh against the kind of aggressive rate-cutting that President Trump has demanded, according to Wall Street analysts. Gold prices often (though not always) fall as interest rates rise because holdings of the metal don’t pay interest, leading investors to rotate into stocks and other risk assets in search of higher returns.

The plunge in precious metal prices was also fueled by a rebound in the dollar, which had fallen to its lowest level in four years before Warsh was nominated as Fed chair, according to JPMorgan analysts. The values of gold and the dollar typically move in opposite directions.

“We get a catalyst of a rebound in the U.S. dollar, to some degree on the back of the nomination of Warsh, and from that perspective, that’s really the trigger that leads to very swift, significant de-risking… and the real sharp rollover into Friday,” Gregory Shearer, executive director of global commodities research at J.P. Morgan, in a call with clients on Monday.

Other factors also fed into the sell-off. Investors had borrowed heavily capitalize on the run-up in gold over the last year. But once prices began to slide, many of those same investors faced rising margin requirements, the minimum amount set by brokerage firms to maintain their leveraged position, according to Nigel Green, CEO of financial consulting firm deVere Group.

“Many chose, or were forced, to sell,” Green said in an email. “This process pushes prices lower regardless of fundamentals.”

Where are precious metal prices headed now?

On Wall Street, opinions are mixed on where gold and silver prices go from here.

“The recovery may not be immediate or dramatic, but we believe the mechanics favor a bounce rather than continued freefall once the forced phase ends,” Green said.

JPMorgan analysts also think the hard assets are likely to recover. In a research note, commodities analysts with the bank lifted their year-end target for gold to $6,300.

But Neil Shearing, group chief economist at investment advisory firm Oxford Economics, said in a research note that he expects gold to end the year “well below current levels.”

“While some market participants may be buying gold due to genuine concerns about the global economic and political backdrop, our sense is that market exuberance and a dose of FOMO are inflating a bubble in gold,” he added.

金价大跌后中国黄金市场抄底与观望并存

国际金价上周大跳水后，中国黄金消费市场出现抄底与观望并存的局面。中国多家银行机构提示理性投资，避免盲目追涨杀跌，并调高投资黄金门槛。

被视为中国黄金消费热度风向标的北京菜百首饰商场，星期一（2月2日）涌入不少前来抄底的中国投资者。《联合早报》记者当天中午抵达商场四楼的投资金条柜台时，排队购金的人龙一度达上百人。

一名77岁的北京居民告诉记者，他打算买100克金条。他表示并不担心金价短期内继续下跌，买金条主要是作为长期投资，为下一代建仓，并看好10年、20年后的回报，“肯定赔不了钱”。

投资金条柜台屏幕投放“菜百投资基础金价”随着国际金价回落已连降三天，星期一中午报每克1030元（人民币，下同，188新元）左右，较上周四（1月29日）的高位回落约600元，意味着之前进场的部分投资者已被套牢。

今年涨势如虹的国际金价，在1月29日一度突破每安士5500美元（6989新元）大关，却在隔天突然跳水，遭遇自1980年代以来最剧烈单日下跌，并跌破5000美元关口。截至星期一晚上9时，金价报每安士4790美元。

市场普遍认为，金价此轮回落始于美国政府拟提名沃什（Kevin Warsh）出任美国联邦储备局主席。消息得到确认后导致美元走强，抑制以美元计价的贵金属吸引力。

经济学人智库高级分析师徐天辰注意到，购买金饰并不划算，因为其中包含加工费，且回收价格通常被压低；相比之下，中国消费者更倾向于购买金条，反映出市场中存在较强的投机成分。

他指出，市场普遍共识仍是金价长期向上，过去一周“跌出了一个很深的坑”，让不少人觉得是入场的好时机。

中国经济学者盘和林研判，中国消费者购金热潮或将迅速降温，因为国内金价正进入调整期，趋势已出现逆转。他指出，中国消费者购金的主要动力就是金价上涨，如今“金价已经发生趋势性逆转，此时投资者的做多风险会比较高”。

40岁的刘姓媒体从业者告诉本报，她已投资黄金四年，主要购买金条等实体黄金，恰好在1月29日减仓套现。眼见金价近期剧烈波动，她直言：“可能今年至少上半年，我个人不会再去碰黄金。”

中国多家银行近期相继发布风险提示，并调高投资黄金门槛。例如，中国工商银行自1月29日起通过“工银金行家”微信公号多次提示贵金属市场价格波动风险，建议客户“在审慎评估自身风险承受能力的基础上，保持理性投资心态，避免盲目追涨杀跌”。

中国建设银行上周五（1月30日）也在官网宣布，从星期一上午起将个人黄金积存业务的定期积存起点金额上调至1500元。

《中国基金报》引述业内人士分析称，1月以来黄金市场震荡加剧，多家银行上调积存金业务门槛，一方面是响应监管对投资者适当性管理的要求，另一方面也是为保护投资者利益，防止短期内出现非理性追涨行为。
