Political science professor Robert Pape warns the war is pushing Iran into a new position of global power as it maintains control over the Strait of Hormuz. He says the U.S. now faces a choice: commit to an effort to reclaim the Strait or accept a new global energy order. “It’s a question of his grip on reality,” Pape says, adding, “he’s lost power every hour that he started to bomb 38 days ago.”
